Exchange 2010 Change IP-Address
Hello, We have 2 Exchange servers in a cluster on 2 different subnets. We want to change the IP address of the exchange machines and cluster. Is it enough to change the local IP address of the two exchange servers and the cluster IP? Or do we need to do more things to make this work. We have tried to change only the local IP address but this didnt work we got many errors in the event viewer including WMI errors.

What are you using DAG? State clearly what IP's you want to change. Sukh

If you tried to change the address with all services etc running, then that is probably the cause of the problems. I would therefore suggest that you shutdown and disable all of the Exchange services on both servers. Change their IP address and reboot. That will register the IP address in DNS. Then start the services on one of the Exchange servers only, and adjust the DAG IP address if you are using a dedicated IP address rather than DHCP. Once changed, start the services on the second server. Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP Blog | Exchange Resources | In the UK? Hire Me.

This works, but we forget also to change the IP-Address in Active Directory. After change the Active Directory IP for Exchange, the server IP's and the Cluster IP, than it worked. Thanks

Having the same problem IP Address was given by dhcp ( reserv ), then after ip was changed for Exchange server ( on dhcp, dns ) , tested , restarted but Exchange server 2010 doesn`t want to start even EMC. no idea what to do. 2hrs Later:Restarted, restarted everything, didn`t make any result, then Windows Safe mode, and restart, then disconnect LAN, then connect LAN, coffee and suddenly 20mins later - it was possible to open EMC. reason? Exchange probably cached something, and was "missing" old ip very much..

Finnaly! - So if you are changing ip on Exchange 2010, the best way to do is: 1. to have your DHCP as a provider for Exchange NIC ip address ( inc Gate, DNS ) 2. Where ever your Exchange srv is in your net, you must 1st of all show him ip to AD, add 1st dns record to ad ( on reservation at DHCP server or router ) if you have other DNS servers, next in to list. and finally external dns or public ( 8.8.8.8 ) So once your Exchange will get allive, he could find AD. 3. No other changes on Exchange needed ( unless you set up any manual add.settings ) ( optional - in ISS ) 4. Check DNS ( add ExchsrvName.domain.com = 192.168.... ip ) if possible - do Nslookup for exchange on YourdnsSrvIp 5. Restart Exchange 2010, ( if you could not change NIC ip settings use SafeMode with Network acc. ) 6. Log in with local admin. Wait until Exchange will stop trying to connect with old settings. Can take some time ( 15-30 min ) Once he will pick up new ip and access to AD all will start Normally.
