Exchange 2010 Can't edit default policy and others do not apply
Hi all, Exchange 2010. I have a default email address policies, and 6 other EAP. When I edit the default policy, I get the message "Error : The operation can't be performed on the default e-mail address policy" I have a feeling that this is why the others EAP do not work. Thanks.

Best practise is that the default policy isn't touched. The default policy shouldn't stop other policies from working though. Is this a migration from Exchange 2003? Have the policies been updated? Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP Blog | Exchange Resources | In the UK? Hire Me.

So I should have the default policy and one other policy that has all my other domain.com? It was a migration from Exchange 2003, but how can I be sure that the policies has been updated? I remember having doing the command, but can't remember if it was working at that time. Thanks.

When you said its migrated from Exchagne 2003, The policy might be legecy mail policy and it can edit only from exchange 2003. You need to update the policy to exchagne 2010. you can use set-emailaddresspolicy command. visist http://blogs.msdn.com/b/dgoldman/ blogs for more details. What I usually do is leave the default policy alone. It should have your external email domain listed though, so that any accounts that slip through the net of any other policies get an email address of some description. Then create a separate policy for email domain, and set them as required to ensure that the users get the correct email address. Agree with Simon. If you really want to edit the default EAP, please try the steps as following: Change Default Email Adress Policy Error http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/exchange2010/thread/9f34c97f-7112-4355-8166-771babd1a437 More information: Upgrade the Default E-Mail Address Policy from LDAP Filters to OPATH Filters http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd351283.aspx Frank Wang Forum Support Please remember to mark the replies as answers if they help and unmark them if they provide no help.
