Exchange 2010 CAS array - transition and after
Hello all,
I am planning an Exchange 2010 migration and would like to have a point clarified. first a few details..
Existing platform
mailserv.domain.com - front end server
mail.domain.com - back end mailbox server
mail.subdomain.com - sub domain back mailbox end server
I will be following the migration plan given to me from the exchange site where, during the migration, the CAS array will process client requests for 2003 and 2010.
proposed platform
2X CAS/ servers in array with Hub role included
2X MBX servers in DAG
1x 2003 exchange server in sub domain
my question is, will client requests from the sub domain be serviced by the array? the mailbox server in the sub domain is not being upgraded. is the co-existence platform supported permanently or is it only recommended for use during the migration?
thanks for reading and any help is greatly appreciated

if 2003 user tries to connect to https://<external CAS array FQDN>/owa. they will get error
in order to avoid this on 2010 cas server run this
Set-OWAVirtualDirectory \OWA* -ExternalURL
https://<cas-arrray FQDN>/OWA
-Exchange2003URL https://mail.subdomain.com/exchange
if you will keep the mailserv.domain.com server set this as the "-exchange2003url"
once you have run the above cmdlet. 2003 users will get 2003 owa experience when they go to
https://<cas-arrray FQDN>/OWA
This will works permanently. however upgrade recommended

I have another question...
How do I specify 2X 2003 backend servers to be served by the CAS array? There are the mailboxes that are going to be migrated to 2010 (mail.domain.com) and the mailboxes that will remain 2003 in the subdomain (mail.subdomain.com)
can i specify 2 "-exchange2003url" and remove one after the migration?
eg:-
Set-OWAVirtualDirectory \OWA* -ExternalURL
https://<cas-arrray FQDN>/OWA
-Exchange2003URL https://mail.subdomain.com/exchange,
https://mail.domain.com/exchange
sorry if this is a bit basic but I need to get this very clear before I even think about starting
thanks again

keep the front end in the first domain that is currently serving both domains and specify that front end server as
"Exchange2003URL"
