Exchange 2010 Backup Fails as it is in an inconsistent state
Hi
We have two mailbox servers (Ex 2010) set in a DAG.
Our log drive filled up recently and a colleague moved some logs out to make space. This soon filled up and I had to move some more out due to the database failing. However, I did check the last committed log file using ESEUTIL and the logs moved were
well out of scope of what was safe to move. Now, I try to back it up using Windows Server Backup and I get "consistency errors" and the logs will not flush.
I need to get this DB backing up, I've tried putting the logs back, but that failed. I'm thinking of removing one copy and leaving only one, presenting a new larger disk to the now redundant server and re-seeding the copy to the new log location. then, move
the active copy to the new copy and back it up.#
if this fails, do I have to revert using ESEUTIL /r ?
Cheers

AT first place you should start Full backup so that it will purge Logs for you. Let the re-sedding happen and see what happens.
Try dismounting stores and remount them back, if you do that log files required should become zero and database will come in consistent state. Hi Asish
Thanks for the reply, unfortunately the re-seed didn't work, nor did re-mounting the database.
Do I need to re-start the Exchange IS service?
I'm also thinking along the lines of ESEUTIL but I'm not sure if this is still a preffered method with 2010 to fic DBs
Any suggestions would be appreciated

Hi
I simply copied back the logs files that I displaced in the first place assuming that would be fine.
Cheers

Hi Kevin,
1- Dismount the Active DB
2- Move the Transaction logs from both nodes to some backup location
3- Mount the Database back
4- Do the Re-seed for this DB on passive node.
5- Once re-seed completed and DB status is healthy
6- Take the backup. it should be completed this time and logs should be purged.

Hi Sanjeev
Thanks, but I've since fixed the issue. I did try a re-seed as suggested, but this failed. I ended up dismounting the store, removing more unrequired logs and running am eseutil sort recovery.
After this, it backed up no problem
Cheers
