Exchange 2010 Address Policy - Mass Mailbox Creation
Hi, I have recently migrated from Exchange 2003 to 2010 (very smoothly, thanks MS!). Have had a few issues recently when creating mailboxes for existing accounts, when choosing a single account, and creating the mailbox the name of the primary SMTP address is username@domain.com when creating for 2+ accounts it decides to use Forename.Lastname@domain.com I have modified the Default Address Policy to allow "Alias" as the "Email address local part" however it still uses Firstname.Lastname. Ideally we would like to use the %username% variable so the email address reflects the users logon name. This is particularly a problem with our Student accounts (We are an independent school) as we use a year code before the username I.E - 05SurnameA. Is this possible? Or are we going to have to create each account individually / change the primary SMTP address after creation (which is a problem with a yearly intake!) Many thanks, Simon Roberts

Hi Simon, In Exchange 2010 you can use the E-mail Address Policies to create multiple SMTP address. You must check each user under the E-Mail Addresses tab to see if the Automatically update e-mai addresses based on e-mail address policy is clicked! Only user with this click will receive the new policy. Ron

There is no option for using the logon name. The default is Alias (which generates as "FirstnameLastname" when creating multiple users). SimonMany thanks, Simon Roberts

Hi Simon, Sure, the log on name is related with the AD, if you want to change the log on name, we could manually change it, or use some script to change them. I would suggest that you post the issue on server forum about how to change the logon name, you will get more help from there. If I misunderstand your issue, please tell me. Regards! That is what i have been doing so far, creating the accounts en-masse and then going into each one and changing the alias and removing the 2nd SMTP address that is FirstnameLastnamne. Just based on my previous setup with Exchange 2003 it was using the logon name for the users, wether created en-masse or independently. SimonMany thanks, Simon Roberts
