Exchange 2010 - removeing last database on a server
I currently have 2 2010 servers and one 2007. I need to deinstall exchange from one of the 2010 servers and when I try to remove the last database I keep getting the error that "this mailbox database contacins one or more mailboxes or arbitration mailboxes. I have tried:[PS] C:\Windows\system32>Get-Mailbox -Database "Leopard Mercury (200-250mb)" -arbitration[PS] C:\Windows\system32>Get-Mailbox -Database "Leopard Mercury (200-250mb)"[PS] C:\Windows\system32>Get-Mailbox -server mercury[PS] C:\Windows\system32>Get-Mailbox -server mercury -Arbitration[PS] C:\Windows\system32>and don't see any mailboxes. In active directory I do see 5 mailboxes listed a 3 system 1 federated, and 1 discovery mailbox in that database. Do I move the to the other exchange 2010 server or delete them( I can't do this yet I can't seem to move of find them with exchange)Help!

Hi, Yes u will have to remove these mailboxes if this is the last mailbox db, otherwise move these system mailboxes. Have a look into this: http://markswinkels.nl/2009/05/19/exchange-2010-delete-the-first-mailbox-database/ Regards, Laeeq Qazi|Team Lead(Exchange + Sharepoint + BES + DynamicsCRM) www.HostingController.com

Hi,There are some hidden mailboxes which will remain in the db, please run the following command:Get-Mailbox -Database "Leopard Mercury (200-250mb)" -Arbitration | ft -wrap -autoThis should display the boxes which are still there. If this doesn't display anything you might try to delete them by using adsiedit although this is not the recommend way. Then move the mailbox to another db or remove it:Move-Mailbox “SystemMailbox{1f05a927-3be2-4fb9-aa03-b59fe3b56f4c}” -Arbitration -TargetDatabase DB02Regards,JohanExchange-blog: www.johanveldhuis.nl

Hi,Please try to move the arbitration mailbox to another database and then try to remove the database again. You can use the following cmdlt.Get-Mailbox –Database “Mailbox Database xxxxxxxxxxx” –arbitration | New-MoveRequest – TargetDatabase "database"Get-moverrequest More related information to share with you: View Move Request Properties http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd876924.aspx Regards, Xiu

The problem turned out to be 2 issues. There were still hidden mailboxes, but for some reason I had moved these arbitration maiolboxes out of the "Users" container in activedirectory. So even though I was using:Get-Mailbox -Database "Leopard Mercury (200-250mb)" -Arbitration | ft -wrap -auto It did not return any mailboxes. Once I moved thoses users back into the Users container and ran the Get-Mailbox command the showed up and I was able to move them and delete the database. Thanks fo the suggestions, I am not sure why it mattered where the user in AD was located but it is all set now.
