Exchange 2010 - Requested 550 Requested action not taken: mailbox unavailable
Hi experts!
I added a new Accepted Domains in the Hub Transport, and in the Email Address Policies (Default Policy) but they simply don't work and create a 550 error watever I do. Everything is working -in production- with the 3 main domains but I want to add another
one.
This Exchange 2010 server is coming from a migration of a Exchange 2003 server. When trying to add a new accepted domains, there was a problem with the Email address policies "Default Policy", the Exchange was telling me that the "Default Policy" was legacy
and I had to do a command in the CLI, that did not work anyway.
I changed the value in adsiedit but beside splitting my Email address policies to multiple lines instead of only in the Default Policy, any new domains does not work. Any leads? Thanks.

please try to create new email address policy for your new accepted domain and assign it to accepted domain.

ok I created my accepted domain (ie newdomain.com), created a new email address policy (newdomain.com), checked if my user has the new email (administrator@newdomain.com) , yes it does, test the email, get the 550 error.
Is that what you meant by "assign it to accepted domain"?

Could you please use the get-acceptdomain |fl and get-emailaddresspolicy |fl to get some information, and then post here, we could do more research about your issue.
About how to create and manage the accepted domain, please refer to below:

I also do some tests follow the instruction, and everything work well.
I would suggest that you could run EXBPA to confirm the exchange email system whether is healthy.
And I also want to verify hod do you test the email, and what the exact error is, please describle more detailed.

With the EXBPA I get : domain has an unknown Exchange signature

But everything work except adding a new accepted domain. Why?
I test simply by sending an email ie: from gmail, or with telnet like here http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH22965 and it does not work.

Per your description, you send the test email from GMAIL, so, did you have configure needed MX and A record for the new accepted domain?
Did you make some tests that sending email from internal domain to the new accepted domain?

Yes MX are ok. Another way that I tested is with telnet like I whote in my other post.

As soon that I put the vitacuire.ca domain, I have the 550 error. I do beleive that the problem is wayyy deeper then that.
When I send an email to the new domain, the OWA switch the joeadmin@vitacuire.ca TO field into joeadmin@farinex.ca witch is the default email of joeadmin.

and could not successful

Per the information, and I also did some tests, it seems there is no the mailbox
joeadmin@vitacuire.ca.
Please make a test in your local domain, confirm you could send email to the mailbox
joeadmin@vitacuire.ca .

If you try the same test with joeadmin@farinex.ca it will work.
Internally, when I use joeadmin@vitacuire.ca and validate the email, it changes to joeadmin, so internally, it's working. It is really something to do with the transport.

Do you use other firewall or smtp gateway for your exchange email system?
And please confirm that you configure properly for all the accepted domain.

Hi BGR,
I came across this during a search of the same issue. Can you tell me what your issue was. i'm having the same problem. DNS, MX Recipient Policy all seems right and tests out right, i can send mail internaly to the address from outlook
but i get the same error you were when i send from outside account (gmail, hotmail, other exchange servers) i'm at a loss here.

Can you explain what you mean by a hidden proxy option? I am adding a second domain to my mail server because we just merged with a group who had outsourced e-mail so we are now handling their e-mail for them and no outside e-mails can get in.
