Exchange 2010 - RBAC authorization returns Access Denied, user not found
Hi, I have just setup a fresh virtual test environment for Exchange 2010, but im running into a problem. Info: Domain NETBIOS: LD Domain FQDN: local.domain Domain server: dc1 Exchange server: mail01 (SP2 RU2) I can use Exchange PowerShell with no problem, but when i launch EMC, i get this error: The following error occured when retrieving user information for 'LD\administrator': The operation couldn't be performed because 'LD\administrator' couldn't be found. When i check the event log i see this: (Process mmc.exe, PID 5876) "RBAC authorization returns Access Denied for user LD\administrator (SID=S-1-5-21-1109722775-470170193-1199110273-500). Reason: User was not found on Domain Controller ." (I have checked that the SID is the same as the DC1 says it is) Also tried EMTshooter (No problems detected). I have never been able to open the EMC without errors. Installation DVD had SP1 and is fresh off the licensing portal (SW_DVD9_NTRL_Exchange_Svr_2010_X64_MultiLang_1_ProdAct_wSP1_X17-13445). Any help would be much appreciated.

When I try to launch the console as another user with those rights i just get access denied. But i seems like I get access denied no matter how much rights i have, i cannot even run notepad as another domain admin from another server than the dc.

Did you go through all the normal install proceedures? ForestPrep,DomainPrep, etc...? Did you try to run EMC as Administrator? (Right Click the EMC icon and click Run as Administrator). UAC can do some goofy blocks sometimes. Does EMC work from the Exchange server? Give some details on the setup, Exchange, DCs, etc? What account was used to run the preps and install Exchange?

Is the SID same on your DC1 and Exchange Server? If so, I suggest you reinstall Exchange Server on another server (with different SID) to have a try. Here is a related theread for you, hope can give you some help: Exchange 2010 Service Pack 1 bug with duplicate machine SIDs http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/exchange2010/thread/0cfc735e-1f94-4772-a7c6-0f9549343ae7 Thanks, Evan Evan Liu TechNet Community Support
