Exchange 2010 - How to increase the named properties for Exchange 2010 mailbox
I migrated a user from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010. After the migration, email to the user failed with the following NDR from the HUB server. #554 5.2.0 STOREDRV.Deliver.Exception:StoragePermanentException; Failed to process message due to a permanent exception with message Invalid named property: [{c7a4569b-f7ae-4dc2-9279-a8fe2f3caf89}:'RetentionTagEntryId'] RetentionTagEntryId. StoragePermanentException: Invalid named property: [{c7a4569b-f7ae-4dc2-9279-a8fe2f3caf89}:'RetentionTagEntryId'] RetentionTagEntryId. ## In mailbox server, I see the following event log entry. Failed to create a new named property for database "XXXXX" because the number of named properties reached the quota limit (8192). User attempting to create the named property: "Server1$" Named property GUID: c7a4569b-f7ae-4dc2-9279-a8fe2f3caf89 Named property name/id: "RetentionTagEntryId" It apprears that this mailbox has reached the named properties limit. (On Exchange 2010, named properties limits are set per mailbox.) How do I increase the named properites limit on the mailbox? Thanks

Is the email to the user from a 2003 user to this migrated user or is it from another 2010 user? Increase the named quota on 2003 server using the article below before migrating other users http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;820379

Another Ex2010 user was sending a message to the migrated user (Ex2010 user). I already increased that per Database naed quota to 24K awhile back. By the way, this error was logged in Ex2010 mailbox server. Failed to create a new named property for database "XXXXX" because the number of named properties reached the quota limit (8192). User attempting to create the named property: "Server1$" Named property GUID: c7a4569b-f7ae-4dc2-9279-a8fe2f3caf89 Named property name/id: "RetentionTagEntryId" When I send a message from outside email (yahoo.com) to that users, we can received that email. Based on Ex2010 doc, the named properties created when a message is coming from an authenticated users in Ex 2010. I moved the migrated user to a different mailbox database (Ex2010) and now I am seeing the Failed to create a new named property for database error for the new database now. Other users on the same mailbox database do not have problem receiving messages.

Hi, Please try below steps: There is a registry entry that can be changed to increase this quota to allow additional named properties. The max per database is 32k and if this limit is hit the database will crash and you will need to restore to get it to mount again and a new DB will need to be created and users will need to be moved. This is the reason we created this registry entry to make sure the 32k limit is not hit. Using regedit go to HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS\<servername>\Private(DB Guid)There is a Dword value called “NonMAPI Named Props Quota” with the default setting of 8192 Lets increase this by 1.5, Set the Decimal value to 12288. This change will require a Store Service Restart. You should not increase this value too high or you will have DB problems. Hope it helps. Best Regards!
