Exchange 2010 - Custom Install - Outlook client connection issue
I have been searching for an answer to this question all night and i cant see the answer anywhere, maybe because 2010 is still new to the world. The Setup;Server 1 - DCServer 2 - Member Server (Exchange Store/Transport)Server 3 - Member Server (Exchange CAS)Server 4 - non-Member Server (Exchange Edge - In DMZ)Currently all email routing is working for all config domains and send and received using dns. All this has been done using owa.My problem is;Cannot connect outlook 2010 to the exchange network.Using Auto discovery it resolves the exchange server to 'Server 2' and fails to connect error;'The connection to Microsoft Exchange is Unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action'The Prompt then asks for manual entry of details the auto completed details are;Microsoft Exchange Server; server2.domain.localMailbox; =SMTP:user@domain.co.ukWhatever details i enter they dont resolve. Error;'The Name cannot be resolved. The connection to the Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action.'However if i enter 'server 3' as the Exchange server and 'user' as the mailbox, it auto completes and underlines the fields, green ticks across the board. The auto complete also changes the Microsoft Exchange Server field 'back' to 'Sever 2', even though this server didnt work. Wizard allows you to finish. When running outlook 2010 error appears right away;'Cannot open your default e-mail folders. The attempt to log on to the Microsoft Exchange has failed'Clicking OK closes outlook.I have tested NetBIOS and FQDN for both servers and they all resolve correctly i have disabled all Windows firewalls on servers and clients. Checked the Auth connection setting, but as its 2010 outlook it is ticked by default.I have tried a different pc and the same results. From what little info i can find i suspect that its a routing issue inside the exchange setup. Between the client -> cas - > hub - > Mailbox and backAs the client keeps getting pointed directly to the mail store/hub server instead of the cas, and from what i have read the cas is now the method of connection for outlook in 2010.

There are no auth logs on the cas, but the Mailbox server have 4 or 5 logon messges, and 4 or 5 logg off(in 1 second)messages per attempted client connection. here is an example (they have been edited to remove internal details)An account was successfully logged on. Subject:Security ID:NULL SIDAccount Name:-Account Domain:-Logon ID:0x0 Logon Type:3 New Logon:Security ID:DOMAIN\userAccount Name:userAccount Domain:DOMAINLogon ID:0x6c0d6Logon GUID:{b289cf65-1da1-9cd3-1950-28ee59d40d57} Process Information:Process ID:0x0Process Name:- Network Information:Workstation Name:Source Network Address:10.xx.xx.xxSource Port:49821 Detailed Authentication Information:Logon Process:KerberosAuthentication Package:KerberosTransited Services:-Package Name (NTLM only):-Key Length:0---------------------------------------------------An account was logged off. Subject:Security ID:DOMAIN\userAccount Name:userAccount Domain:DOMAINLogon ID:0x6c0d6 Logon Type:3 This event is generated when a logon session is destroyed. It may be positively correlated with a logon event using the Logon ID value. Logon IDs are only unique between reboots on the same computer.Anyother logs that might help, please ask, and if an admin see's this post, sorry its not inthe 2010 forum i used the wrong window when posting. Please move if needed.ty

Thanks for your ideasI have tryed Outlook 2007 on an XP machine aswell with identical results, i have also tryed it without encrypCan you access mailbox using https://CASservername/owa- correct this works for every user in the domain.Question should outlook be connecting to the CAS or the Mail/hub server in the config?Because when i try and enter the CAS in to the wizard it auto changes it to the Mail/Hub Server. I have tryed using host file to force it to use the CAS but same results ;'Cannot open your default e-mail folders. The attempt to log on to the Microsoft Exchange has failed'
