Exchange 2007 to 2013 - are there any hidden system mailboxes that I need to be aware of to move before finalizing my migration?

Hello all,

I am finishing up my 2007 to 2013 migration. Looking in the EAC new migration wizard when doing a move to new database, I see all mailboxes are now listed as being on the 2013 database.

So really basic question - am I done moving all mailboxes over to 2013? Are there any hidden system mailboxes I need to move manually? Last exchange migration I did was a 2003 server to 2010 and if I remember correct there were system mailboxes that needed to be moved. I was just wondering if there is anything I need to watch out for with 2007 as well?

Thanks!

What about when you try:

Get-MailboxStatistics

?

I think you can use " -server Ex2007Svr " to target the Exchange 2007 server

Do you see the System Attendant mailbox as having been moved over?

Otherwise, you may not even have to worry about that one:

You are probably all set though (since you see all mailboxes listed on the new server).

You will know for sure when you start removing the mailbox databases.

Hi,

You can access EAC or use EMS in Exchange 2013 to confirm whether the arbitration mailboxes and Discovery Search mailboxes have been migrated succeed:

Get-Mailbox -Arbitration | FL Name,DisplayName,ServerName,Database,AdminDisplayVersion

For steps by steps migration from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013, please refer to:

I ran Get-MailboxStatistics against the 2007 server and it shows me mailboxes that I recently deleted (I guess they haven't been fully purged yet?) and a "SystemMailbox{B475DD85-54AB-4651-BC01-792542BV99F11)" and a "Microsoft System Attendant" Do I need to do anything with these? I was under the impression 2013 does not use a System Attendant Mailbox.

I also ran Get-Mailbox -Arbitration | FL Name,DisplayName,ServerName,Database,AdminDisplayVersion. It listed 3 SystemMailbox{xxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxx}, a Migration mailbox, and a FederateEmail mailbox - all of them were on the 2013 database.

Hi,

It should be fine in your Exchange 2013. If you still worry about it, you can back up these mailboxes remained in Exchange 2007 before you dismiss the server.

Additionally, the deleted mailbox in Exchange 2007 would not be migrated to Exchange 2013 by default. If you still want to use any deleted mailbox. Please recover this mailbox to enabled regular mailbox, then move it to Exchange 2013 database.
