Exchange 2007 running on Windows 2008 VM - Valid Configuration?
Hello, I’m trying to install Exchange 2007 on a Windows 2008 R2 VM. I’m stuck on the following error: Cannot find at least one global catalog server running Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 or later in the local Active Directory Site. On the following 3 Reediness Checks panels… On the Hub Transport Role Prerequisites Client Access Role Prerequisites Mailbox role Prerequisites I followed some instructions on the following page http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa996832(EXCHG.80).aspx And set my W2008 R2 VM Domain controller to DC Type Global Catalog and it didn’t s the error. Question: Is this a valid configuration, Exchange 2007 on a Windows 2008 R2 VM? If it is, any other ideas why I cannot get past this error. It is the last error I’m getting so far. All I want this for is to do some development against the environment. Thank You Richard Loba

Make sure you are installing Exchange 2007 SP3 on Windows Server 2008 R2. Are you installing this server on DC or Member server? Make sure IP v6 is enabled on Domain Controller running on Windows 2008. Did you restarted the server after promoting it to Global Catalog server? How Many DC's do you have in the Environment? Hi, As Gulab said, Windows server 2008 R2 only supports Exchange 2007 for SP3. It is no recommended to install exchange 2007 and DC in the same box. Please set up and new VM machine and then join the domain. Then try to install exchange 2007.

All I have is Exchange 2007 from an old MSDN, no SP3. It was just to develop against to see how it worked. Guess I’ll find something else to develop against. Thank you for the information Gin, and have a good day Richard Loba
