Exchange 2007 reinstall after failed SP1 update
Here is my situation: I am trying to get an Exchange serverrunning for my company. We currently do not host our own email server and I am doing a test run to get familiar with it. In the process of upgrading an initial install of Exchange 2007 to SP1, things went bad and with my limited experience I ended up re-installing the OS (Server 2003 Enterprise x64)to try to start from scratch with Exchange 2007 SP1. Now that I've done this, trying to run Exchange setup gives the error: "The Exchange server is in an inconsitent state. Only server recovery mode is available." and I am unable to get any further. I think I have narrowed down the problem to the existing information in Active Directory that the initial Exchange install attempt created. The setup logs show thattheExchange Organization info alreadyexists andExchange setup is grabbing it as if an ExchangeServer is installedin our domain. Can I delete this info fromAD to clear up the issues and be able to re-install? Or is there moreto itthen that? As per the technet article: How to Remove an Exchange 2007 Organization (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998313.aspx) After you remove Exchange2007from the last server in your Exchangeorganization, you will have some Exchangedata and settings that are not removed. For example, removing Exchangefrom all servers in an organization does not do the following: Remove permissions that were added during setup from groups or objects that still exist after uninstalling Exchange Remove the MicrosoftExchangeSystem Objects container from the ActiveDirectorydirectory service Roll back the ActiveDirectoryschema Remove any extended rights that were added during setup, such as SendAs and ReceiveAs rights Remove the Exchangeconfiguration container from ActiveDirectory Remove user data, such as database files, log files, public folder data, and public folder replicas I'm hoping to simply delete the Exchangeconfiguration container and MicrosoftExchangeSystem Objects container from Active Directory with ADSIedit, but again, I am hesitant due to my lack of experience. Any help would be appreciated, please let me know if you need any more info. Thanks Steve

Also, when running setup /m:recoverserver, Hub Transport installs ok, but Client Access fails and this is the last section from the setup logs: [1/14/2008 9:47:37 AM] [2] [ERROR] Active Directory operation failed on pures01.<domain>.
