Exchange 2007 recovery
Here is the situation. There was a single SBS 2008 server running Exchange 2007 and it crashed during an update. (The admin cycled the power during the update and the server wouldn't boot after.) The admin then copied the Exchange database, logs, etc. off the server and then built a new SBS from scratch. (I know :/) Is there any way to recover the old Exchange data to the new SBS?

Kanien good info from Fiona and the other option would be to use Lucid8's DigiScope http://www.lucid8.com/product/digiscope.asp which can open the Offline Database files so that you can Browse, Search, Export Mailboxes, Folders and Items to PST & MSG or in your case you can use DigiScope to open the offline database and recover/import the data directly into the production Exchange server. NOTE: for future reference DigiScope will also allow you to do cross version recoveries/migrations i.e. 2003 --> 2007 --> 2010 etc.Troy Werelius www.Lucid8.com Search, Recover, & Extract Mailboxes, Folders, & Email Items from Offline EDB's and Live Exchange Servers with Lucid8's DigiScope

Is this in a production environment? why did you admin try to troubleshoot the issue. did do you have a backup that you can recover the server from like a full backup or something. You can try a dial tone recovery with the old database if it is not corrupted.

This was a production environment. The Admin was not a familiar Exchange admin and didn't troubleshoot. What I have is a database, logs, etc.

Problem is its a totally different server so dial tone is irrelevant at this point and only way to handle is via a 3rd party product like DigiScope http://www.lucid8.com/product/digiscope.asp Troy Werelius www.Lucid8.com Search, Recover, & Extract Mailboxes, Folders, & Email Items from Offline EDB's and Live Exchange Servers with Lucid8's DigiScope

Kanien, please try to provide enough information so people can help you. I feel like you are not providing enough information about your issue and where did the new forest come from? it was not mentioned in your original post.

He had a single SBS and apparently rebuilt it from scratch. If it was the domain controller (as I think it is with SBS) then he has a new forest / domain. At this point I think he can either: 1) Contact Microsoft (not sure what they could do at this point). 2) Use some tool like Lucid8 to manually extract the data and then import it back into the new SBS.Please mark as helpful if you find my contribution useful or as an answer if it does answer your question. That will encourage me - and others - to take time out to help you.

Thought I would jump in here and say that while you certainly could use DigiScope http://www.lucid8.com/product/digiscope.asp to export to PST and then import the PST files via MS cmdlets, DigiScope also has the more elegant method of being able to import direct from any offline store into any production server (even cross version 2003- -->2007 --> 2010 etc, so you can avoid the PST shuffle :-) Troy Werelius www.Lucid8.com Search, Recover, & Extract Mailboxes, Folders, & Email Items from Offline EDB's and Live Exchange Servers with Lucid8's DigiScope

Hi Kanien, Mailbox data can only be exported to mailboxes within the same forest. The Active Directory directory service accounts associated with the mailbox can be in an external forest, but mailbox data cannot be exported to servers in different forests.
