Exchange 2007 in an existing 2000/2003 organization
I installed 2007 in a 2003 domain in which there is an Exchange 2003 server (mailbox store etc). I could not create another mailbox store to create new mailboxes I get a 0x8004005 error with error id 9546 from MSExchangeIS service "failed to create Event Registration Mailbox for database MyStore\MyMbx" I tried removing storage groups and could not remove the "Second Storage Group" which has some public folders. I need to have a mailbox store on 2007 for my app,...Anysuggestions

I'm not sure what deploy means. The idea is that apparently in an existing organization an access denied error happen when the newly Exchange service is trying to create an "Event Registration". At this point I'm confused because as far as I understood from http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/exchange/E2k7Help/79df6a3a-29a8-4935-b143-8a66c8d082d4.mspx?mfr=true the store events are de-emphasized (only store events where stored in a system mailbox). Maybe some body could shed some light? thanks

Have you prepared the legacyExchange permission needed before installing Exchange 2007 ? Lasse

I thought that if the ADS isin native mode and the fact that the user that starts the install is part of "Exchange admin" will solve this. What else? Do I have to set special permissions on legacyExchangeDN even though I have no legacy Exchange serversin the AD? I'm confused,... The 2003 Exchange is running on a PDC (of a 2003 domain). The is no other Exchange in that domain.

search the helpfile for "PrepareLegacyExchangePermissions" /Lasse

Only closely related. I can't find a way to add Ex2k7 to an existing AD site without it becoming part of the existing Ex2k3 site. When this goes production, I would like to recreate my Exchange site and migrate users to it - we started with an Exch 2000 site, then upgraded to Ex2003, and I hope to get a nice clean 2007 site without inheriting all the chaf from previous versions. Does anyone monitoring this thread know if my plan will be possible or will we be forced to join the old Exchange? thanks bill

As far as I understood from the install help that's what the install does setup.com /PrepareLegacyExchangePermissions setup.com /PrepareSchema I had uninstalled and run the install (manually as above) but the same happens MapiExceptionCallFailed:Unable to mount database.(hr=0x80040005,... and in application event viewer I get "Failed to create the Event Registration Mailbox for Database First Storage Group\Mailbox Database. Error - 0xbf69. " This must be some local issue,...

Exchange 2007 will always create its own routing and administrative group. This is only seen from Exchange 2000/2003 point of view. Exchange 2007 uses AD sites for routing and its own administrative permission model different from Exchange 2000/2003 /Lasse

We're still trying to understand this issue. Can someone elaborate on what account they were running install under when they run into this error? Exchange Org Admin? Enterprise Admin?

I have started this thread separately and you guys moved to "Deploy",... Maybe it makes sense Here's the gist I have an organization which is still an NT domain organization (not migrated to AD). Inside I have a Windows2003 domain with an Exchange 2003. Both the PDC and Exchange are installed on the same machine (Dual XEON 2.4GHz 2Gb RAM). Exchange 2003 is running fine and everything works. I have another machine 64bit on which I installed VMWARE and I have created a 64 Bit Windows 2003 R2 server in the same domain as my Exchange 2003. On this image I tried to install Exchange 2007. At first it did not work because my user was not part of the new domains (was just a Domain Admin). Anyway I read the documentation and I made sure the my 2003 domain is in "Windows 2000 native" functional level and the user is part of all necessary groups. After these changes the install goes smooth. Exchange starts but it does not mount the mailbox store. and it gives an "access denied error" with the event logged: "Failed to create the Event Registration mailbox for First Storage Group\Mailbox Database". Error = 0xbf69. When I start Exchange admin I see that the mailbox db is not mounted. If I try to mount it I get: "Exchange is unable to mount the database that you specified. Specified database: <guid here>. Error code MapiExceptionCallFailed: Unable to mount database. (hr=0x80040005)" If I look at event viewer I see the event described above occurred again.

Hi I am also experiencing this problem. I installed exchange server on a brand new clean patched windows 2003 server. no errors were logged in the logs, but as previously mentioned none of the stores will mount. I am running a 2003 exchange server in native mode in the AD. I tried to apply the default domain policy as someone had mentioned in another thread, but it would not informing me that i couldn't apply it from this version of the management tools so I deleted and recreated it to no avail. I have done the entire setup with elevated permissions (schema, domain and enterprise admins) and was also an exchange full administrator. I am now also an Exchange Organization Administrator I can create new stores but cannot mount them, with the above errors Any ideas on a fix for this? Richard

Have you also logged this as a bug? I see the same behavior if I try to create/mount a new public folder database. I'd suggest bugging it with any and all details you can provide.

I did not create a bug report. Maybe you guys can do it better since you could repro the issue.

We are having the exact same issue here. We have installed EXCH 2003 SP2 on a fresh Win2k3 SP1 box in a test environment, and receive these same errors when trying to mount a new DB. We can restore ones from backup that mount (some that don't as well), but not fresh ones. The EXCH install in on Microsoft Virtual Server, the only difference we can see between the two environments.

I have same event 9546 Failed to create the Event Registration Mailbox for Database First Storage Group\Mailbox Database. Error - 0xbf69. Attendant service is already running. No joy, can't mount any databases at all after install finished. Mahually created another dtbase and it won't mount either. Also have event 9519Error 0x80004005 starting database "First Storage Group\Mailbox Database" on the Microsoft Exchange Information Store. And event 9518Error 0x80004005 starting Storage Group /DC=local/DC=TURSA/CN=Configuration/CN=Services/CN=Microsoft Exchange/CN=TURSA/CN=Administrative Groups/CN=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)/CN=Servers/CN=MAIL01/CN=InformationStore/CN=First Storage Group on the Microsoft Exchange Information Store. MDB failed to start. Also event 8197Error initializing session for virtual machine MAIL01. The error number is 0x80040111. Make sure Microsoft Exchange Store is running. Also, make sure that there is a valid public folder database on the Exchange server. This last event is despite the fact that the information store is running and the public folder database is mounted. There seems to be no relevant information on this problem for Exchange 2007, please help!

As near as we can make out this appears to be an issue with DC replication intra-site. The short update delay between the DC your console is talking to when the database is created and the DC the Exchange server is talking to causes this error before the two DCs have synced. It turns out that waiting only a minute or so the the problem just resolves itself. In previous versions the Exchange console talked to the Exchange server but now talks to a DC creating this issue. Part of Microsoft's defective by design philosophy they have been using for some time now.
