Exchange 2007 deployment
I'm hoping someone can provide a quick path to setup Exchange 2007. I have 2 servers running Windows 2003 Server. I have installed Exchange 2007 (typical) on the 2nd server. There was no existing internal email service as existing service was external pop3 On the second server I also established the pop3 role. How can I get the existing AD accounts into the email accounts of Exchange 2007 without having to add them manually? Also, I have a linksys router between the Internet and the internal network that has the IP from the ISP and a different IP range for the internal network. I am planning to change the MX record IP to the same IP as the router (provided by ISP) but are there any settings in the router I have to do to get the email to go to the Exchange server? This is the first pass I'm taking at this so any support is appreciated. Thank you.

Hi, You will need to mail-box enable all the desired users. You can do that from the management console or from the shell using a script (see the helpfile for directions). You forward post 25 from the linksys router to the exchange server - this will make sure that mails are received. Also make sure: 1.) You have configured an accepted domain for the mail domain you are hosting 2.) You have configured a policy that applies the desired e-mail addresses to the users 3.) You have a functional exchange backup 4.) You have a functional exchange antivirus / antispam setup 5.) You have configured to HUB server to send - receive mails: http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2006/11/17/431555.aspx Leif

Thanks for the help. This is how far I've gotten now. I created 2 accounts for testing. I was able to configure outlook 97 to see the account. I created an email and sent it to myself. It sends. When I click 'Send Receive' it doesn't come back. I did this a few times and looked at the mailbox in the Exch Mgmt Console and I see the items incrementing so I know they are going to the mailbox but I can't seem to get them to come back. The main domain is different from the actual email domain but I have the email listed as an accepted domain. I can't get internet email to go out or come in yet. I did change the MX record to the IP address on the linksys router and updated the UPnP for POP3 (110) and SMTP (25) to forward to the IP of the server that exchange is installed on. What's next?

Hi, Outlook 97 is not supported in an exchange 2007 environment - you must use as a minimumversion Outlook 2002. Did you create a receive connector? Leif

Sorry, meant Office 2007. I did do a receive connector and when I send an email from outlook to the same user account, it goes to the exchange server and increments in the queue but when I try to receive it back I get an error when trying to do 'Send/Receive' I could not find the error message in technet. 'Task "Microsoft Exchange" reported error (0x80190190). The operation failed.' I figured I would work on the internet email side once I had the internal email working correctly. Thanks

I recently ran into this same error message and determined that the offline address book was not getting downloaded. If you are having trouble with the offline address book, try to follow these steps: Verify that the target mailbox server is generating the offline address book. For a CCR mailbox server, there is a registry setting that you will need to set to force it to a specific node. Verify that the address book information is getting copied to your web distribution virtual directory on your CAS server(s). Open IIS Manager to Default Web Site -->OAB and look for the files If you have recently added a unified communications certificate (contains subject alternative names) on the CAS, make sure that you remove the self-signed certificate from the certificates MMC. IIS Manager - force the OAB site to use SSL Exchange Management Console, or PowerShell, update the OAB location to use the https URL Perform a send receive from the client and look for the address book offline Hope this helps - Nondelivery

Thank you. I've gone through these steps. It looks like it is trying to connect to the Exchange Server to download the offline address book but never actually connects and then errors out. All the other email seems to be working. The only other major issue is that the clients seem to want to try synchronizing and the clients lock up often when users are in Outlook. I'm thinking this is due to the failing sync taking place but perhaps there is something else? Thanks again for the help from those that have replied
