Exchange 2007 database size keeps growing on its own
We have Exchange 2007 Enterprise running on 2003 R2, in last few days one the database starts growing on it's own. Most of the mailboxes on this storage have pop3 access only and the combined mailbox size is no where near to what the database size is.

Hi Amir,There are several reason why the databases can grow rapidly and spontaneously. This article is a good start http://blogs.technet.com/mikelag/archive/2009/07/12/troubleshooting-store-log-database-growth-issues.aspxJust follow the steps whichever are applicable and let us know the updated status.Milind Naphade | MCTS:M | http://www.msexchangegeek.com

Milind, Thanks for the reply, I have gone through this document before posting here. All things mentioned in this document do not apply in our case. It continues to grow at this time.

And you enabled POP protocol logging as well as parsing the trans logs per: http://blogs.msdn.com/scottos/archive/2007/11/07/remix-using-powershell-to-parse-ese-transaction-logs.aspx?

Hi All, is there any powershell command which can provide the details of the mailbox database tables with the size consumption? Specifically dumpster table. I have been facing issue to identify space which is not refelcted in the extract of the usersmailbox totalitemsize and totaldeleteditemsize. Shashi

Shashi, There is no such command AFAIK. Dumpster is not something that will be available to you using powershell so easily. If you are good and confidant enough then you can think of using MFCMAPI for digging into it further but it is always risky to deal with tools which give you granular access to anything. Also, there are ways to find out the dumpster size on each mailbox store.. I would recommend you reading through it http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee832796.aspx here before doing anything else.Milind Naphade | MCTS:M (Exchange 2007 and 2010) | http://www.msexchangegeek.com
