Exchange 2007 coexistence with Exchange 2003.
I've tried to install Ex2007 in a Ex2003 org. The installation went fine, I can mount the public folder database but not the mailbox database on the new exchange 2007 server. I can't create a new one either. I get the following error message: --------------------------------------------------------Microsoft Exchange Error--------------------------------------------------------Failed to mount database 'Mailbox Database'. Mailbox DatabaseFailedError:Exchange is unable to mount the database that you specified. Specified database: 7cb36a6a-bd3e-418f-8975-8f98909a22d4; Error code: MapiExceptionCallFailed: Unable to mount database. (hr=0x80004005, ec=-2147467259). --------------------------------------------------------OK-------------------------------------------------------- Ther is now .edb file where the database is supposed to be and no one is created when I try to create a new one. Thanks Martin

Are there any informative event logs in eventvwr? you can make a new database (new-[mailbox | publicfolder]database) and try to mount that... does that work?

I have seen that running setup /prepareDomain can fix this problem in some instances. Otherwise you might want to post your setup logs from /preparedomain to this thread since that might highlight the problem.

Thanks for the hint.I used that and "setup.com /PrepareLegacyExchangePermissions" and it solved the problem.

Good to hear... according to the help file setup /prepareAD should actually run the /preparelegacyExchangePermissions process as well.

I had the same exact issue, and the setup.com /preparedomain worked for me thanks alot.

My environment did not have Exchange 2003 servers; only Exchange 2000. I ran setup /prepareAD at the Exchange install directory and the problem was resolved. (I copied the install files locally). Thanks for the help.

I had the exact same problem as the original poster. I tried the legacy permission switch but that did not work. The prepareDomain switch did the trick. I'm wondering why this did not take effect when it was run as part of the setup process? I can see in the install log that it was run... Should I be worried?

Interestingly, I had the exact problem. Have an existing Exchange 2000 server, installed a separate Exchange 2007 server and the pf storage group is fine but the mailbox storage group won't mount. setup.com/preparedomain, opened the EMC, mounted the mailbox db and sure enough it worked.I too am concerned that this is a symptom of other problems. I read that the preparedomain phase should be done automatically from setup. (Unlike when Exchange 2000 came out)

For me it helped to restart the System Attendant.

I've tried the /prepareAD, /preparedomain and /PrepareLegacyExchangePermissions. I still cannot mount my databases. I've also tried creating a new storage group and new databases within and they wont mount either. is anyone else still having this issue? once resolved am I to assume my database will return? there are still no .edb files anywhere and I've started to create mailboxes can anyone else shed light on this issue? the cause, other tricks, etc...

Run the Exchange 2007 setup with /Preparedomain:<FQDN name of domain> switch. This switch creates the MESO container again.2. Restart the Information store service.3. Mount the Mailbox store.More information:==============Check the following link to know more about setup with /Preparedomain switch<http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/exchange/e2k7help/3c97d99c-a777-4481-9608-38d47d7f7192.mspx?mfr=true> In our case MESO container was not deleted but rename to non-default name so we just rename it back to the default name and all databases mounted successfully.

I was having the same issue. When i attempt to mount the database i get "Microsoft Exchange Error--------------------------------------------------------Failed to mount database 'MB20'. MB20FailedError:Exchange is unable to mount the database that you specified. Specified database: EXCH2K7MB20\SG20\MB20; Error code: MapiExceptionCallFailed: Unable to mount database. (hr=0x80004005, ec=-528)" To resolve this issue, i did the following:1) Run eseutil against the database to verify it shutdown in a clean state2) Deleted all the transaction logs (empty the transaction logs folder) for that particular storage group. NOTE: Each of my SG have their own TL folder.3) Attempted to mount the database again and this time it mounted. Not sure why it wouldn't mount before even though when i run eseutil it showed the database shutdown in a clean state.Hopefully this will help someone.Ciao!

The other thing I've also found with creating new information stores is that they ususally fail to mount when first created. Just wait a few minutes and try the mount again and it works. I think it is some delay between AD and the Exch Info store service. We have several DCs and I suspect the DC that gets the update for the newly created store might not be the DC that Exch Info store is talking to and so there is a delay before it works.Cheers,Mark.
