Exchange 2007 and disk space
Hi,We have an issue with space on the drive on which Exchange 2007 runs. To try and sort this wehave recently been encouraging users to clear unwanted items from their mailboxes, deleted items etc. We have managed to clear a significant amountof stuff off, but exchange does not seem to be reclaiming the space and is taking more disk space. We have noticed Event ID 9871 Online Maintenance Overlap. Can anyone advise on this?ThanksBob

The database file system size is not decreased, the database is only reorganized to provide continuous whitespace but the database file is not reduced. You would need to run an offline defrag.I recommend that you define mailbox quotas to prevent this from happening again in the future.

Hi J-H,Thanks for the reply. Is there any other way that we can achieve this? The drive is not big enough to be able to do the offline defrag.ThanksBob

You can run Eseutil with the /d /p option at the command line to configure Eseutil to create the new defragmented database in a separate location, such as a location on a different hard disk.
