Exchange 2007 and defrag database
We have three storage groups with one db in each. I need to defrag thedatabase in the first storage group. When I do this it is my understanding the email service will not be available to thoseusers withemailsstored in that storage group. When it is defraging, does it storage any incoming/outgoing emails from that database to be retrieved or sent once it is finished defraging? We are onExchange 2007 SP1rollup5, Server 2003 R2.Thanks

Hi,Yes mails will be queued up in local delivery queue until you mount back the DB after defragmentation.Amit Tank | MVP - Exchange | MCITP:EMA MCSA:M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com

Amit,Does the local delivery queuve automatically deliver once it is remounted? However since the db is dismounted, the email will not be availble to anyone whose mailbox is located on that db? correct.

Yes it retries at certain interval and whenever DB is back to online stage it delivers the queued messages.Yes, users will not be able to access their mailboxes who are having mailbox located in that DB...BTW, just a suggestion about defrag, if you don't have enough space to recover as per 1221 event in event log or any other particular issue then don't run the defragmentation as a normal maintenance routine because it is already being done by online maintenance.Amit Tank | MVP - Exchange | MCITP:EMA MCSA:M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com
