Exchange 2007 and Outlook 2003 clients
We are a non-profit organization running from 16 locations with 250 approx. mail users. We are presently running Exchange 2003 on Windows 2003 platform with Office 2003 (Outlook 2003) connecting to our Exchange serverover VPN connection to our servers at Head Office. Our workstations (approx 200 systems)are configured to retrieve/send mail via mail.ourdomain.com with Outlook 2003, and we setup Offline Files to handle network outtages. The Exchange 2007 server will have a new name, say newmail.ourdomain.com. We do not have budget to upgrade to Office 2007 presently, nor time for training staff. Once the 2007 server is up and running we will decommision the Exchange 2003 server. Our concern is reconnecting the users to the new Exchange 2007 server with the new name. Do we need to reconfigure each client to point to newmail.ourdomain.com (an onerous task at best with 16 locations scattered all over Ontario) or is there some way we can push this out to the clients without visiting each location and reconfiguring the mail server location and OST setup?? Any advice/help would be appreciated. Mike Hedley

Take a look at the Outlook 2003 Resource Kit which has tools for packaging and updating OUtlook profiles: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ork2003/HA011402561033.aspx And here's some info on customizing PRF files: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ork2003/HA011402581033.aspx

Will the Exchange 2007 server be installed into the same 2003 Organisation (I would imagine so) - if this is the case then as long as Outlook can communicate with a GC then it will autolocate the new mailbox on the Exchange 2007 server and update the profile accordingly. Cheers
