Exchange 2007 and Forefront / Antigen without Edge servers
The question is simply whether or not I am required to run separate Edge servers to include Antigen in my Exchange setup? I saw the blog article at http://exchangepedia.com/blog/2006/07/exchange-server-2007-internet-email.html which explains how to get Exchg2007 running without Edge servers as a whole, but I'm still in the dark regarding antispam.Any tips would be much appreciated

Hi,
I would like to explain that the Edge server has the following features:
The Edge Transport server can act as a smart host server for the organization. A smart host is a designated server through which an e-mail server routes all outgoing messages
The Edge Transport server can act as a Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) relay server for the organization in a Perimeter Network. An SMTP relay server receives incoming messages on behalf of an organization and relays the messages to internal e-mail servers
The Edge Transport server can perform address rewriting so that all outgoing messages appear to come from a single SMTP domain
Except for the above features, the Hub Transport can achieve the same function as the Edge server.
Thus, if you have the special needs for the security, I suggest we configure the Edge server. If not, please just install Hub Transport Server. The Forefront and Antigen can also be applied with the Hub Transport Server.
Below the instruction for Edge Transport Server

This is the resource about Forefront.
