Exchange 2007 and ADUC/ESM
Hi We are running a mixed Exchange 2003/2007 org...at the moment, we have a few test users on 2007 mailbox servers. Whereas previously, we tended to use the Exchange 2003 snap in to ADUC to manage Exchange related tasks (move mailboxes, check the location of someone's mailbox etc), I understand this is not possible with Exchange 2007 and we should use the 2007 Exchange Management Console or PowerShell. I had a few queries I thought someone may know the answer to; 1. If a user's maibox is on a 2007 mailbox server, does this mean that if I use ADUC to check certain Exchange attributes (e.g. mailbox size limit), these could be incorrect? Or will ADUC still report the correct data? 2. Once we are on pure Exchange 2007, at what point should we stop using the Exchange 2003 snap-in to ADUC to manage Exchange properties? 3. Once we are on pure Exchange 2007, how would I easily check the following? i) The location of someone's mailbox [previously, we searched for the user in ADUC, and went to Exchange General tab]ii) Someone's Send on Behalf/Send As settingsiii) The rights on that mailbox 4. Is it possible to check an Exchange 2003 mailbox properties via Exchange 2007 EMC? 5. I notice that the Exchange 2007 Message tracking does not include 2003 servers and vice-versa...is there no workaround to this?

1. No, it should be correct but not recommended to change with ADU&C. 2. Yes, you can. Or need to use some third-party utility to integrated ADU&C for Exchange 2007 Tasks...http://www.u-btech.com/products/exchange-tasks-2007.html 3.1Right click on mailbox in EMC, properties and General tab or with Get-Mailbox username | FLcmdlet in EMS 3.2 Right click on mailbox in EMC and grant Send-As and in properties, send of behalf of or with EMS. 3.2 Right click on mailbox in EMC and grant full mailbox permissionor with EMS. 4. Yes, you can view Exchange 2003 mailbox properties via EMC. 5. Nop, you need to track it both side if message passes through both Exchange Servers... the user account info in two different tools is cumbersome. combine them back again. I mean, really, the exchange admins are domain admins anyway.
