Exchange 2007 VM Lab Configuration
Hello .. I'm a noob setting up ExCH07 on Server2003 in a VirtualBox in order to learn and practise. VirtualBox is running on XP. I installed everything and created a network bridge. I can get to the internet and ping things like mail.yahoo.com. When I created the Server2003 and set the domain to myname.com .. not .local .. is that ok? Exchange installed correctly. It looks like my DSL provider has blocked port 25 but I can telnet to port 587. I created a Recieve Connector in Server Configuration -> Hub Transport :: Client Use all avail IP locally on port 587 :: recieve all IP address 0.0.0.0 - 255.255.255.255 :: Anonymous is checked. The FQDN is exchange.myname.com. I created a Send Connector of SMTP type with an * as the address. Can you help me configure this to send/recieve email? PS: I can edit the MX record of my domain but not the DNS. Thanks.

If port 25 is blocked then you aren't going to be able to do much. You will have to subscribe to a mail hop service. To receive email you just need to enable anonymous on Receive Connector. Sending email you will probably have to use a Smart host, which is configured on the Send Connector. Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP Blog | Exchange Resources | In the UK? Hire Me.

I wouldn't use One and One personally for anything. Their system is setup to work in a certain way (them for everything). You may want to consider using another company to host the domain. With the state you are in, your email is going to servers at One and One. I am not familiar with their DNS configuration system to know how you change the MX records, but you will need a mail hop service to route email through. The MX records would point to them. You can't do it with DNS alone - DNS is just host names, has nothing to do with port numbers. Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP Blog | Exchange Resources | In the UK? Hire Me.
