Help Please.. I tried to add a new receive connector and received this message, but my internet searches did not give anything helpful. Yes, thanks for the updates. Thanks Anil, but I was using EMC. Many thanks to Frank, I went with your suggestion to try the setup option, but it complained about a reboot pending, so I have just completed that and now it is complaining about my old exchange 2003 server not being present. So I was just researching this situation. I had removed the old server some months ago, and removed all reminisces of that DC and thought it was good.. I still have the server untouched, but it is quite old now.. I was also trying to look for that reference in ADSIedit, and I know that is fraught with danger, but I'm getting desperate. There appears to be no 'search' functionality with it either, I suppose this would be considered dangerous, any ideas? the error is below: Welcome to Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Unattended Setup Preparing Exchange Setup No server roles will be installed Performing Microsoft Exchange Server Prerequisite Check Organization Checks ......................... COMPLETED Configuring Microsoft Exchange Server Extending Active Directory schema Progress ......................... FAILED Unable to retrieve the schema master server object from Active Directory, DN: CN=XXXXXXX\0ADEL:24594a29-e240-428d-bd28-f98cadd7e51c,CN=Servers,CN=XXXXXXX,CN=Sites,CN=Configuration,DC=XXXXXXX,DC=com. The Exchange Server Setup operation did not complete. For more information, visit http://support.microsoft.com and enter the Error ID. Exchange Server setup encountered an error. Thanks again. P.S. Just found an old server entry in ADSI under: configuration/services/Microsoft Exchange/<domain>/Connections Maybe it is time to migrate to the new domain, a .local which is something I always wanted since taking on this role, I was hoping that the exchange wasn't going to be the product that dictates that move though.

Ok, looks like the schema master was not functioning as an operational master, and I needed to seize the role, at least now, the netdom is working. tried running setup again, but it required ANOTHER reboot... so wont be able to update again til tomorrow. CheersGreg

Hello Everyone, I was researching the same error and stumbled across the associated article. I have been able to confirm my fsmo roles, and I am running Exchange2007sp3 with roll up 1. However, I did not install update via disk so I am not sure how I should try and run the setup /ps syntax. Any insight would be greatly appreciated and please let me know if you require additional information to help assist in the solution. Thanks in Advance for your time -Lou
