Exchange 2007 System Attendant
Hello, We currently have Exchange 2007 CCR setup and have run into 1022 errors for the System Attendant account. The first time we changed the default 100MB size limit and that resolved the issue temporarily. We have since had this mailbox grow to 208MB and have had to change the limit again. We understand that we need to figure out why the mailbox keeps growing. We determined that the current SpecialPrivateFolderForFreeBusyStorage is the folder that contains 63000 items and using all of the space. Does anyone have any suggestions for troubleshooting why this mailbox keeps growing and how we can reduce the size? Thanks for your time,SteveJoe

Im sure you have seen this already:http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa996235(EXCHG.65).aspx Overview of Exchange 2000 Server and Exchange Server 2003 Special MailboxesThe System Attendant mailbox has a folder within it called SpecialPrivateFolderForFreeBusyStorage. This folder is used when Collaboration Data Objects (CDO) or Microsoft Outlook® Web Access sends free/busy information to the store through the MSExchangeFBPublish process.<!----> (applies to 2007 as well)and http://blogs.technet.com/evand/archive/2004/12/21/329172.aspxExchange Special Mailboxes Part 2 - System Attendant mailbox How can I log onto the System Attendant mailbox? It can be done, but it’s a fairly complicated set of steps and you’ll have to call PSS to get them. SHOULD I log on to the System Attendant mailbox? Probably not. I can’t think of any good reasons for accessing this mailbox without PSS directing you to do so.I would follow Evan's advice and contact Microsoft support and with them walk through the necessary steps to determine what may be going on.

Hi Steve, Regarding the 1022 event, please post detailed event information here for further research. In addition, would you please let me know whether it is a pure Exchange 2007 environment or is migrated from Exchange 2003? In addition, please run following command and post result here: Note: I assume that you have Public Folder database on the CCR mailbox server. Get-PublicFolder -server exchsvr "\non_ipm_subtree\SCHEDULE+ FREE BUSY" -recurse | Format-List According to the article provided by Andy, the folder SpecialPrivateFolderForFreeBusyStorage in SA mailbox is used when CDO or OWA push Free/Busy information up to the public folder store through the MSExchangeFBPublish process. Therefore, the issue may occur if the MSExchangeFBPublish is not able to push Free/Busy information to the Public Folder. Therfore, I also suggest you check the Application Event on the Exchange Server to check whether any error event is encountered regarding Free/Busy publish. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mike Shen TechNet Subscriber Support in forum If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tngfb@microsoft.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Thank you both for your Replies.Mike, below is the event 1022 info. We do still have a mixed enviornment with Exchange 2003. We do not have public folder databases on the CCR mailbox cluster. We have seperate mailbox servers dedicated for public folder replication. Hi Steve, Thanks for your response. From your information, I understand that the event 8197 is encountered regarding Free/Busy Publish. In addition, the Public Folder is hosted on a dedicated Exchange 2007 Mailbox Server. If I am off base, please let me know. Based on my research, the issue may occur if the Public Folders object missed. Therefore, please refer to the steps in following article to check whether the Public Folder objects can be found: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb727370(EXCHG.80).aspx Note 1: In our internal database, I do notice several cases that the CN=Public Folders object is moved to the CN=Microsoft Exchange container for some reason. If that is the case, you need to create the CN=Folder Hierarchies under the Exchange Administrator Group, and moved the CN=Public Folders back to the CN=Folder Hierarchies. Note 2: For mixed environment, the Public Folders object should be located under Exchange 2003 Administrative Group container. If the Public Folders object can be found, please also ensure that the object has msExchOwningPFTreeBL attribute configured correctly to include all the Public Folder stores. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mike Shen TechNet Subscriber Support in forum If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tngfb@microsoft.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I stepped through the article and it appears everything is as it should be. One question though? I should lay out what I am seeing first. We have 4 Administrative Groups. -The Exchange Administrative Group that was created when we installed Exchange 2007-The First Adminstrative Group that has our Public Folder Hierarchy and our Exchange 2003 system-2 additional administrative groups that have seperate Exchange 2003 servers for other departments that also replicate public folders to our other systems. Our First Administrative Group contains the CN=Folder Hierarchies and CN=Public Folders object and the msExchOwningPFTreeBL attribute is configured to include all the Public Folder Stores in our Exchange Orginization. Is this the only Administrative Group that requires all of these settings? Should the other storage groups have the same settings? Thanks,Steve

Just the one where the hierarchy lives.
