Exchange 2007 Storage question
Hello everyone, I'm really confused regarding the subject of mailbox database deletion and i need some help. The story is this: On an exchange 2007 server i had the following setup: First Storage Group with one mailbox database and Second Storage Group with public folder database. One day I ran out of space on the partition containing these 2 groups. I added a drive and moved everything there (storage group path and database path). The mailbox database had a lot of white space, so I wanted to get rid of it and fit it back into the original drive. I created a new, empty second database (in the same "First Storage Group") located on the original drive. I've moved all the mailboxes ( from GUI ) from the old DB to the new DB. I want to delete the old DB. I'm not sure if it's safe to do so. If i run get-mailboxstatistics on the old DB i get this: [PS] C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop>Get-MailboxStatistics -Database "Mailbox Database" DisplayName ItemCount StorageLimitStatus LastLogonTime ----------- --------- ------------------ ------------- Microsoft System Attendant 0 BelowLimit 10/5/2012 2:05:11 PM SystemMailbox{FCBC73BD-B4 402 NoChecking 9/25/2012 3:44:20 AM E4-4D40-8EDC-2D46A52FC9F} Please adivse. Thank you !

Yes, you should be able to remove the first database now. If there are any references to user mailboxes left, Exchange will flag it and wont let you remove the store . Since the System Attendant Mailbox is on this store, it will be recreated on the new store once you restart the Exchange System Attendant service and will show up in the new mailbox database once its "accessed".

Thank you Andy! What about "SystemMailbox" that is shown below the System attendant? What is it's purpose? Should it be moved? Apparently it has 402 items...

The System Mailbox is unique to each database. So no need to save it and no need to delete it. :) See: http://blogs.technet.com/b/evand/archive/2004/12/17/323636.aspx
