Exchange 2007 Sent Items Retention
I can't find any default settings regarding Sent Items on an Exchange 2007 SP1 server. These seem to be random as mine go back 11 months, but others only 6. Why would that be? Also, we recently had some people leave the company and as our Systems Admin, I had to go into a couple of people's mailboxes to retrieve some old emails. I was wondering why the Sent Items folder didn't go back as far as mine on some machines. Isn't the data in each person's .ost based on the Database limits? Or does the server manage these by default in some way where if I recreate a person's account new, the .ost data could be different than on the original machine? Of course there could be Archving done by the user, but I'd like to manage these more now. Thanks...

Do you have a Managed Folder policy configured for the Sent Items folder? If so that would be affecting users who have the policy applied to their accounts. Otherwise it might be a client side thing like Auto Archive.Active Directory, 4th Edition - www.briandesmond.com/ad4/

Hi Brian, no I don't have any Managed Folder Policies configured for our users, just overall size limits of around 2GB per mailbox (we're a small company). So, I'm not sure I understand why the Sent Items would even be removed if the user hasn't reached or passed their quota.
