Exchange 2007 Sending Issue
Hello all, Currently I am running Exchange 2k7 ( Not an upgrade or migration from any other Exchange version ) on a Windows Server 2003 R2 box. Generally I haven't had much of an issue with the default send/receive message limits until now. So naturally, I changed the user's mailbox send/receive size limits to 20MB, as the file in question is a 13MB PPT file that could easily shoot up to 15+MB after SMTP coding. The user is attempting to send the file to two external recipients. One of the recipients receives the message and attachment with no issues, the other will relay an error message stating: "#550 5.3.4 SMTPSEND.OverAdvertisedSize; message size exceeds fixed maximum size ##" Strange that only one of them bounced back, but either way I plugged the error message into Google which brought me to a few different things to try. First off was confirming the size limits were imposed on all connectors, send/receive, global, etc. provided in the steps with this link: http://exchangepedia.com/blog/2007/09/exchange-server-2007-setting-message-size.html Which I used to verify that I had adjusted the limit in all the correct places, which I had. The second link was to a TechNet forum post here, which I went through and followed as well: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchangesvrtransport/thread/18104c86-bd19-4254-8f57-0dfe99fb884b I installed the Windows Support Tools from my Windows disc, and used ADSIEdit to verify the following strings as suggested in the article above. delivContLength, which was set at 20480, which matches the changes I had made in the Exchange Management Console. submissionContLength, which was also set at 20480, again reflecting the changes I had made in EMC. I was curious if anyone else had run into a problem similar to this or had suggestions on where to go from here. Thanks in advance ! Chris

Hi, From the error message, the cause can be narrow down on the SMTP session. On the SMTP session, you should first check the Send Connector, then the destination server. If the destination server has the configuration to prevent certain size which can cause this issue. Did you configure any Smart Host on the Send Connector? To confirm the destination server issue, you should send the test email by using telnet command which can specify 15MB size. Thanks Allen
