Exchange 2007 Search - Doesn't index attachment with .TXT filename extension (capitalized).  But works fine with *.txt extension
Hi guys, In testingExchange Server 2007, i just noticed the Exchange Search service doesn't index any text attachment withcapitalized *.TXT filename extension. However, that same exact file with a lowercase *.txt filename extension got indexed without any problem. Here is how it was tested in our demo enviroment. 1) Created two text files with the exact same content inside. These files are named "documentone.txt" and "documenttwo.TXT" 2) Sendthe 1st email with "documentone.txt" as an attachment to a mailbox on Exchange Server 2007. 3) Sendthe 2ndemail with the "documenttwo.TXT" as an attachment tothat samemailbox on Exchange Server 2007. 4) Do an Instantsearch (via Outlook 2007 or OWA 2007) using keywords inside those two files above. Only the first message with "documentone.txt" would get returned from the server. (The "Used Cached Exchange Mode" option is not enabled) Can you give it a try in your Exchange 2007 enviroment and see if it can be duplicated? Thanks guys! Thanks TL408

I have tried testing this, and I didn't see the problem reported above. The search found both messages for me. I do see a related issue, however. I have external senders generating and sending in Excel attachments to several of my users. They excel sheets are being generated from SAP databases and JD Edwards systems, using an export to Excel function. It appears that the indexing process is somehow breaking on these messages. My users cannot successfully search on any criteria in these messages - it returns no result. It almost appears that the index process is breaking on these messages, and no info for these messages is being entered into the index. This is effecting multiple users and mutliple messages, and is becoming a high profile problem If a user forwards the message internally, the search will usually have the same problem in the sent folder of the sender, and for the recipient. If I open the user's mailbox from my workstation, the search also fails. We are a full 2007 implementation, but no SP1 yet. Anyone ever see anything like this?
