Exchange 2007 SP3 failed and cannot comeback to upgrade Menu

Hi team,

I plan to migrate from Exchange 2007 to 2013. so I wan to upgrade exchange 2007 from SP1 to SP3

I have two exchange 2007 SP1 Server, Server 1 CAS+HT. Server 2 CAS+HT+MBX.

I already upgrade Server1 (CAS+HT). upgrade success without issue. but when I upgrade Server2 (CAS+MBX+HT)

I found error at HT upgrade step.

this is the error

"

Error:

This role cannot be installed because the following roles are not current: ClientAccessRole MailboxRole AdminToolsRole

"

after this error I change registry HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Exchange\v8.0\ and config same version between Unpacked Version and configured Version. I change from 8.1.240.6 to 8.3.83.6. so all unpacked and configure version become 8.3.83.6

. this is the link

http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2007/05/21/3402900.aspx

But, after I restart the Server, Exchange installation not continue to upgrade from SP1 to SP3.

the Menu seems to appear like new Exchange installation menu. like attached picture bellow

its weird, if I click next, the menu appear like exchange 2007 new installation.

can I back to Exchange 2007 upgrade menu GUI?.

I suggest to use setup.com /m:upgrade. but is this a suitable method?

please help team :)

Thanks

Hi,

According to your description, I understand that cannot upgrade to Exchange 2007 SP3 with error This role cannot be installed because the following roles are not current: ClientAccessRole MailboxRole AdminToolsRole.
If I misunderstand your concern, please do not hesitate to let me know.

If the upgrade isnt complete, the version of current Exchange server (SP1) is 8.1.240.6. The version of 8.3.83.6 is related to Exchange 2007 SP3.
Therefore, please change the setting back and try again.
Besides, I find a similar thread about this error message when upgrade to Exchange 2007 SP3, for your reference:
https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/fba6fd70-a406-4d79-8a07-0385ac04c600/exchange-service-pack-2-install-fails

In the end I solved my issue here by re-running the /prepareAD and /preparedomain.  I then deleted the watermark keys in the regestry as described above and happy days.
