Exchange 2007 SP2 Setup Failed on Windows 2008 SP1
I am having trouble installing Exchange 2007 SP2 on Windows 2008 SP1. I have successfully installed all of the prereqs and have successfully updated the schema, and prepared AD. Setup fails at the Hub Transport role with the error: Service 'MSExchangeTransport' failed to reach status 'Running' on this server. I have read multiple threads where people say that you need to have IPv6 installed and I have read other threads that say you need to disable IPv6 in the registry. I have read all the following threads and have tried to install Exchange 2007 SP2 with IPv6 enabled, disabled, disabled in the registry, I have tried editing the hosts file, and every possible combination of all of these settings. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/exchange2010/thread/8f6ff508-2c09-4140-ba14-eca32bc5bf1d http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929852 http://blogs.msdn.com/b/keithmg/archive/2008/11/04/exchange-07-win2008-ipv6-is-installed-but-service-msexchangetransport-failed-to-reach-status-running-on-this-server.aspx I cannot find anything in the documentation about IPv6 being a prereq or requirement for Exchange 2007. I would like to hear from someone on the Exchange team who can clear this up once and for all. I have tried uninstalling and installing exchange about 20 times now. Can someone please point me in the right direction?

Hi, We have SP3 for Exchange Server 2007 released. So I recommend you to download SP3 and try to install. Besides, as I know, if we have IPV4 enabled, then we can have IPV6 enabled. Hi, as i know IPV6 is not a requirement for Exchange 2007 for installing Exchange 2007 because i can successfully install Exchange 2007 with & without IPV6 enabled. for the issue of running MSExchangeTransport, this is related to AD services, could you please give us more informtation about the Ad topology and how many DC did you have ( which role on which server). Also it's necessary to check eventvwr and check for error or warning reported there. And it will be more helpfull to have the install report file (*.txt file) that contain the install process details. waiting for this information, and if you use a single server that hold all AD roles and Exchange, i recommand to do a fresh installation because this one is pollued by multiples ones that failed. best regards, Mondher monham

Hi, I'd like to know if you have send connector configured, if you have any smarthost configured in your organization. If yes, then please check the address there. Please check if your "exchange" computer account has read permission on HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\Tcpip\Parameters Please try to send the setuplog to me for further troubleshooting. Regards, Xiu
