Exchange 2007 SP1 to send/receive external emails.
Hey guys....Can you pls let me know the steps to follow to configure Exchange 2007 SP1 to send/receive external emails. Steps I did - 1. Create a Receive connector & enabled annonymous users 2. Add the accepted domains 3. Create a Send connector 4. Install the Exchange 2007 anti-spam agents For firewall rules, I followed this article - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb331973(EXCHG.80).aspx When I tried to send email from outlook, I am getting error - " This message has not yet been delivered. Microsoft Exchange will continue to try delivering the message on your behalf ". Then I followed the steps in the web site - http://www.msexchange.org/articles_tutorials/exchange-server-2007/management-administration/Exchange-Server-2007-Email-Routing-Part3.html until enabling external adapter as I have set up the accepted domains, send/receive connectors On the same day, I can see mail flow from Outlook to external email address. Next day, I worked from the library, I couldnt send email, I also updated the external adapter & new ip address, got NDR & couldnt send emails to external email. Can anyone assist me what mistake am I doing ? Hoping to see your response. Please Note - At the Library, I have set the Virtual Machine to NAT so that it can get private IP address - only then I can connect to the internet from the virtual machine. VT

I would troubleshoot this by trying to telnet to port 25 of some external server from Exchange. For example: telnet a.mx.mail.yahoo.com 25 helo you.yourcompany.com mail from:you@yourcompany.com rcpt to:your_test_mailbox@yahoo.com data This is a test. . Then see what happens and where. For inbound, do the same thing from an Internet host to your mail server and mailbox. Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

Hi VT, From the delay delivery report, we could see the message may be hung in the queue of Exchange server. I suggest you use queue viewer to see where the message stay and the last error of this queue. Please follow this document to use Queue Viewer: A quick tour of Queue Viewer in Exchange Server 2007 http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2007/01/09/432124.aspx In addition, I suggest you telnet to hotmail server from your server, then see what will happen. How to Use Telnet to Test SMTP Communication http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa995718(EXCHG.65).aspx If the problem persists, please feel free to let me know. Hi Evan, Thanks for your response. I have a doubt.....as I am new to exchange server, I am having a doubt that if I need to register my domain if I need to send mails externally (If yes, I haven't done that yet)....My apologies as I should have updated in my previous post itself. I was trying to find the answer for that. If I need to register, can you pls send me some info about that. Pls Note: But I can send mails within the clients those are connected to my domain. Hoping to see your message.VT
