Exchange 2007 SP1 to SP3 including a CAS
Hi We have a setup with an Exchange 2007 SP1 working as Hub Transport and Mailbox and then we have a CAS server. What is the correct way to upgrade them to SP3? Lasse/Lasse

Hi, If the question is on which server you should we install first: hub, cas or mailbox. I don't this there is any particular order you can do HUB, Mailbox then Cas or other way round but when we apply at CAS, we should apply to all CAS symptomatically. Do explain if I understood something wrong.Ripu Daman Mina | MCSE 2003 & MCSA Messaging

You understood it correctly. We only have 1 Hub server and 1 CAS so I will start with the Hub server and then the CAS. I have found some post that mention that the AD Schema has to be updated when upgrading to SP3, is that correct and is there a step-by-step guide?/Lasse

Hi, For SP3 you first have to extend the schema, have a look into this article is has all the steps & caution that we have to take while installing SP3 : http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff607233(EXCHG.80).aspx Please me us know in case of further queries. The recommened order is actually CAS first. From: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff607233(EXCHG.80).aspx We recommend that you upgrade your servers that are running the Mailbox server role after you upgrade your servers that are running the server roles in the following list. Upgrade your computers in the following order: Client Access servers Unified Messaging servers Hub Transport servers Edge Transport servers Mailbox servers Tim Harrington - Catapult Systems - http://HowDoUC.blogspot.com

I went through the release note yesterday and it should be pretty straightforward. This is my first service pack upgrade of an Exchange 2007 installation, so looking forward to see what will go wrong.... :-)/Lasse

Is it possible to prep the Active Directory while the users are logged in to our system and using it?/Lasse

Hi, I don't think it will effect the logged in user but it recommenced to preform when you are having some maintenance period or when you have some communication for SP3 updateRipu Daman Mina | MCSE 2003 & MCSA Messaging

Should there be any problem in having a CAS with SP3 and a HUB with SP1? I am thinking about updating the CAS first and then when it's possible then updating the HUB, so they might be on different versions for some time./Lasse

Hi, You can plan CAS update to SP3 then wait for a week & update HUB that not a problem at all.Ripu Daman Mina | MCSE 2003 & MCSA Messaging
