Exchange 2007 SP1 Update Rollup 8 - Ended Prematurely
I have been unable to install UR 8 on one of my exchange 2007 SP1 servers. It installed fine on the others. The server is a client access and hub transport server. Here is what I can tell you so far: C:\ExchangeSetupLogs is still there from the original installation I am using the same account to install the update that I used to install Exchange. I changed the temp directory to C:\Temp\ based on this thread: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchangesvradmin/thread/2a1f6406-4407-43c9-b764-2daff965a76a I made sure that I stared the command prompt with administrative privileges just in case. I saw the following line in the log file: Property(C): msgRequiresProc = The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Exchange Server 2007 that you're running. Check your computer to see whether you need an x64 (64-bit) or x86 (32-bit) version of this file. However, I know I have the 64bit version of Exchange 2007 SP1 and I know I downloaded the 64bit version of the file: Exchange2007-KB968012-x64-EN You can see the log file here: http://www.usd.edu/~rwvoss/SP1UR8.log Thanks Randy Voss

Hi Randy, From the log files, I notice following error is received: CAQuietExec: The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070422) I would like to explain that the error may occur Security Configuration Wizard that prevents ngen.exe from running during the deployment of the RU. SCW (shipped with Windows 2003 SP1 and Windows 2008 server) disables .NET Framework NGEN utility (for both x64 and x32 .NET) by default. I suggest you attempt the following steps to troubleshoot the issue: 1. Start Security Configuration Wizard. 2. Modify existing template under Select Administration and Other Optioins to allow .NET Framework NGEN -x64 to run. 3. Save and apply the template. Windows 2008: Microsoft .NET Framework NGEN v2.0.50727_X64 Microsoft .NET Framework NGEN v2.0.50727_X86 Windows 2003: .NET Runtime Optimization Service v2.0.50727_x64 .NET Runtime Optimization Service v2.0.50727_X86 By default these services should be set to MANUAL. Hi,it should be enough to set the service to "manual". Starting the scw and go to the whole procedure is waste of time in my eyes.Just my 2 Cents.Viele Gre Walter Steinsdorfer MVP Exchange Server http://msmvps.org/blogs/wstein
