Exchange 2007 SP1 Organization Preparation Failure
I am attempting to prepare my Active Directory and Domains for a fresh Exchange 2007 SP 1 deployment. I am using Exchange SP1 initially because this is the only version wherein I can get an available ISO from my Volume licensing
download portal at this point. When attempting to run Step 3 of "How to Prepare Active Directory and Domains" according to:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb125224(EXCHG.80).aspx . I get an error stating "The object cannot be created because the parent is on the list of possible superiors."
This message is generated after issuing the setup /p /on:"OrganizationName" . Additionally, I get a message stating, "Problem 2005, (Naming_Violation). The actual Exchange organization name shows up in ADSI Edit, but the "expected" containers with
the exception of CN=Address Lists Container,CN=<Organization Name>,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=<root domain>
are not populating.
I am running this command with the 32 bit Management tools version of Exchange 2007 SP1 because I have to perform this series of tasks from a computer (DC in this case) in the same domain as my Schema Master. All of my DC's are Windows 2003
R2 32 bit. I've been unsuccessful at running these commands from any of my Exchange Server Role nodes because these Servers are in a different domain than my Schema Master.
I've verified that there is only one Exchange Organization name (which is the one I'm attempting) to successfully prepare with the setup /p /on:"OrgName" .
Is this just a matter of getting the "parent" of the object to be recognized as a possible superior? If so, then how would I go about safely getting the "parent" on the list of the possible superiors attribute?
Any assistance and/or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Exchange 2007 32 bit is not supported in Production you need to run Prepare Schema from Exchange 2007 64bit.

MMHussain:
I appreciate the recommendation. However, running the 64 bit Exchange 2007 SP1 setup /PrepareAD /OrganizationName - from a 64 bit Member Server from the same domain as the Schema Master renders the same error message: "The object cannot be created
because the parent is on the list of possible superiors."
Do yo any other suggestions?
Thanks.

Hello
Also check your DNS settings and the computer where you run this command must be able to contact all domains in the forest on port 389.
Thanks Mhussain

Try to run "setup /p" without org name as it seems that you have already created one beforeMCP, MCSE 2000 , MCSA 2000 ,MCSA 2003 , MCITP , MCTS , MCT

I've verified DNS and ran the suggested commands. I have prepared my Schema. My Schema version is 11116, which is the right version for Exchange 2007 SP1.
I can't get beyond the:
setup /PrepareAD /OrganizationName: <organization name>
Thanks.

setup /p without the org name renders the same result.
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi POB7,
About the error message: "The object cannot be added because the parent is on the list of possible superiors", please check as followed:
Please open ADSIEDIT.MSC and navigate to CN=Address Lists Container,CN=<Organization Name>,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=<root domain>, right click on it-> New-> Object...-> check
the addressBookContainer class whether is listed or not.
If it is not visible, please go to Schema partition, open the Properties of CN=Address-Book-Container->possSuperiors-> the Values should be
container and msExchangeConfigurationContainer
If not, please add the two values manually.
After that, please run setup /p again.

Frank:
HUGE THANKS TO YOU SIR!!! I've tried all sorts of things and banged my head on this one for more than a week. Very much appreciated.
I'd just like to state that the actual "msExchange" value is msExchConfigurationContainer instead of
msExchangeConfigurationContainer. You'll encounter and incorrect parameter messge if you enter
msExchangeConfigurationContainer as opposed to msExchConfigurationContainer.
I am quite thankful for your help, Sir!!!
Very Respectfully,
POB7

Thanks for all of your help. I thought I clicked "Mark as Answer" intially.
I have a separate, but potentially related issue now that I've moved forward to setting up my Hub Transport Server and Client Access Server. I will create a new forum question for the issue itself, but I wanted to mention it to you directly
being the you had such great insight into my previous issue. Provided that you have the time, please look out for my post regarding the following issue:
