Exchange 2007 SP1 OAB error--new install of SCC on Server 2008
Hi All--A new install of Exchange 2007 SP1 (through rollup 9) with a SCC Mailbox cluster on Server 2008 is generating OAB errors. Specifically event id's 9109 and 9334. Error message is: OALGen encountered an error ffffffff (internal ID 50506a8) while generating address list '/o=xxxxxxxxx/cn=addrlists/cn=oabs/cn=Default Offline Address Book'. Check other logged events to see if this is a serious error.--Default Offline Address BookI've read numerous articles on the issue that was addressed in rollup 5 but no matter what I do I still can't get an OAB to generate. The share gets created but there's no xml or files in the directory. I've checked the permissions on the default global address list and that's not the issue. I've tried rebuilding it and still no luck.Anyone have any ideas what I should try next? Getting a little burned out on this one...Thanks!

What node are you running your mailbox server no? Was it the first node built into the cluster or the second? When looking for the share on the CAS server is it actually there? Is it being shared? Is there any content what so ever? If there is nothing on the client access server at all I would try to delete the folder, change the polling interval "Get-OabVirtualDirectory| Set-OabVirtualDirectory -pollinterval 2" You will want to change it back later, then rebuilt the OAB. See what happens. If I recall the OAB is automatically generated on the first node on the mailbox cluster. So in the event of failing over to the passive node the OAB will not get generated properly until failed back.SF - MCITP:EMA, MCTS: MOSS 2007, OCS 2007, Exchange 2007

**Display name change**Thanks Scott--I'm not sure which node was installed first. The cluster and exchange were setup before my arrival by an outside consulting company. The OAB isn't getting to the CAS servers at all. The virtual directory is there on each of the CAS serversbut there's nothing in it. The OAB folder gets created in the \\(mailbox cluster name\ExchangeOAB location but there's nothing there. So as I understand the oab generation process its failing right from the get go and never has a chance to replicate to the CAS servers. Thanks again for your assistance.

Hi Jason, I understand that that the Exchange 2007 SP1 RU5 has been installed on all the nodes of the SCC cluster. At this time, I also suggest you check whether the hotfix 955733 has been installed on all nodes: According to KB 957978: IMPORTANT To enable the change in this hotfix, you must apply the hotfix that is described in Microsoft Knowledge Base article 955733. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: 955733 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/955733/ ) Incorrect status codes that are returned in failover clusters may cause operations to fail on a Windows Server 2008-based computer In addition, please let me know when the issue began to occur. I also suggest you increate diagnostic logging for OAB Generate and post related log here for further research. You can run set-eventloglevel to increase diagnostic logging. Wow..that was it. Thanks Mike! I guess the numerous rollups I had applied (5, 7 and 9)didn't address the issue and I still needed to apply the hotfix directly. Haven't seen that before..Thanks again!

Hi!, I'm running Windows 2008 R2 with Exchange 2007 SP2. I have these issues too, but i'm at SP2. Do I still have apply these fixes? I'm getting these events: Error 9334 OALGen encountered error ffffffff while initializing the offline address list generation process. No offline address lists have been generated. Please check the event log for more information. - Default Offline Address Book and Warning 9109 OALGen encountered an error ffffffff (internal ID 50506a8) while generating address list '/o=<my Org>/cn=addrlists/cn=oabs/cn=Offline Address Book'. Check other logged events to see if this is a serious error. - Default Offline Address Book Thanks! Rodrigo
