Exchange 2007 SP1 Event ID 1160
We have single exchange 2007 SP1 serverwith 70 users and 8GB Memory. Almost once a week, if we do not reboot the server, we get Event ID 1160 from application log: Source: MSExchangeIS, Category: General Description: Database resource failure error Out of memory occurred in function JTAB_BASE::EcCreateIndex while accessing the database "First Storage Group\Mailbox Database". And then, we get Event ID 1034 from system log shortly afterward: Source: Service Control Manager, Category: None Description: The Microsoft Exchange Information Store service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s). If we reboot the server once a week. The errors will not occur. Any help and suggestions will be greatly appreciated! William System Administrator wxu@peopleslib.com

I ran best practices analyzer and it does not tell me anything wrong. What other troubleshooter you think I should use to check? Many Thanks! William

Hi, The event logs are indicative of memory exhaustion/depletion, perhaps too high a load on the server with not enough RAM. The issue can be caused by several factors, such as third-party software, client operation and so on. I have listed some common cause regarding the issue: Suggestion 1: Please check the following KB: Performance may decrease on a server that is running the 64-bit edition of Windows Server 2003 and that has Symantec Notification Server 6.0 installed http://support.microsoft.com/kb/951031/en-us Suggestion 2: Configure Page File size according the following KB: How to determine the appropriate page file size for 64-bit versions of Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/kb/889654/en-us Suggestion 3: Exmon Tool: We can use the Exmon tool to monitor the top users. If a user is almost in the top-10 user list (on CPU usage), we should pay more attention. Note: The tool can only be used to analyze the MAPI client operation. Nevertheless, if we still cannot identify the issue, you may need to gather dump files to troubleshoot the issue.
