Exchange 2007 RAM usage...Seems excessive.
Hi all, I have a new Exchange 2007 install on Windows Server x64. I have read all the info about the required ram and so forth. This is a small network with three servers, just one of which is an Exchange server. The network is fully functional with no issues at all. My concern is the 6 GB of ram used out of 6GB installed and a 6.47GB pagefile. The database is only 6.67 GB and I have 15 users. Exchange runs on a Supermicro PDSME+ motherboard, 2.4 GHz 3000 series Xeon chip, and a SATA RAID 5. Now I do have a unusual setup. I have a Blackberry Enterprise Server on a separate server. Exchange 2007 feeds the email to the Blackberry server for forwarding to the Blackberry phones. Also I have a couple of Windows Mobile phones, Samsung BlackJacks. If this is the case being normal, I will have to put clients back on Exchange 2003. It's cost prohibitive to buy 8GB or more of DDR2 ECC memory for small shops. Those 2GB and 4GBmemory modules are definitely not cheap. I can jutify 4GB but not 8GB for small installations. Let me know! Thanks.

For 15 users (7 GB DB file), 6 GB RAM should work very well. Dont think you need more RAM. What issiues do you see other than Exchange uses alot of RAM? Exchange uses allRAM it can find, this is by design, but it will also release RAM to other apps. when they request RAM

Yes the 6GBseems fine but i think have made a mistake. I implemented the "msExchESEParamCacheSizeMax" switch in ADSI Edit to limit the ram usage to 4GB. Now store.exe will not exceed about 1GB. I removed the switch, reset it to <not set> as it was, and still store.exe will not take all the memory. Help! Is there a registry value that needs to be reset? Thanks!
