Exchange 2007 Public Folders keeps asking for credentials (and fails)
Hi All, I've got a very strange problem with our new Exchange 2007 environment. Outlook keeps asking for user credentials and failing (even though the credentials are OK) and for me it's locking my account in AD. Email is working fine even if you cancel the credentials box. I've found out it's down to the Public Folders database. If I unmount the database the credentials box stops appearing. For now that's fine, but we obviously lose out on Public Folders and more importantly the GAL. I've searched Google for this problem but can't seem to find anything. Any ideas? Thanks, Matt

After Googling some more I found out it could be a problem with accessing it via RPC only, so I remounted the database and it seems to work fine in OWA. So far the credentials popup hasn't appeared, but I can't expand the public folders or update the GAL.

Check info:
1. Please describe the exchange topology, is it a brand new exchange 2007 environment or migrated from exchange 2003?
2. Does the public folder and GAL work before?
3. Are all clients PC using outlook 2003?
4. Have outlook anywhere set on the outlook?
5. Is there any error or warning event in the application log on the problematic client PC and exchange server?
6. Quote: I can't expand the public folders or update the GAL
Whats the outcome if you try to expand the public folder or update the GAL? Any error info jumped out or event in the application log?
7. Check if theres error info in the Sync Issues folder of outlook
Notes: Click Folder List button in the outlook, which locates at the left-below corner of navigate pane by default
8. Please run ExBPA on the exchange server for health check

Thanks for replying 1. It's a new setup, with 2 servers across 2 different sites. Only 1 is Internet facing. 2. It looks like it has worked before, though I can't specifiy when as I've only figured out the source of the problem. 3. I'm currently using Outlook 2007 and I'm the only person currently using our Exchange env. though there are around 15 accounts across the servers. 4. Outlook Anywhere is enabled on the server and is enabled on my Exchange account in Outlook though it still connects via RCP when on the network (not via HTTPS) 5. Nothing in the event logs 6. The only warning event I get is when I try to expand the Public Folders, I get "Cannot expand the folder. Microsoft Exchange is not available. Either there are network problems or the Exchange computer is down for maintenance" 7. No errors in the Sync Issues. 8. I'll run it now and reply with any outcome. Thanks for your time, Matt EDIT: Thanks for you help, by using ExBPA I noticed that the Public Folders store for the Exchange server on my site was set to the store on the other site. I've changed this and Public Folders are now working. The GAL isn't updating though but I'll look into that now before I ask for help. Thanks again!
