Exchange 2007 Offline Address Book - Not updating at client end using manual pull
Hi All, I have been reading much of th thread on offline address book in this forum and it seems to point to different solutions to resolve the issue, now let me explain one of the scenario we have encountered where I need advice on. Single Exchange 2007 Envrionment - All roles on a single box Internal Microsoft CA with all Subject Alternative names coded into to cert Auto-Disover works fine internal and external all pointing to the correct URL OOF also works fine internal and external OAB URL using TEST connectivity works fine stating offline book is downloaded and when I compare the GUID in the URL in OUTLOOK it's the same as the server end GUID Navigation to the website URL pointing to OAB.xml takes me into the OAB.XML file itself Now to my problem, Outlook 2007/Outlook 2010 users on cache mode are not reflecting the latest changes in the OAB even after rebuilding it at the server end , and making users download the OAB manually. No sync errors are generated in Outlook and on Exchange Server end no errors are logged when rebuilding of OAB (force update). In order to get users to get the latest OAB, if we delete of the *.oab files on user's system , Outlook downloads the correct information. The next round when new users are added the Outlook OAB does not get updated. One information I noticed that when navigating to the OAB directory on end users system the GUID does not match the TEST Autoconfig GUID or SERVER GUID of OAB. It's a point where are all working fine without any errors but end users just can't get the latest OAB, worst is no errors are generated at client end or server end as in client end it states under the event log, OAB downloaded sucecssfully. To add-on I have deleted the default OAB and created a new OAB with all commands via Powershell updated, and Mailbox pointing to new OAB, presently awaiting for the Get-Mailboxdatabase | Set-Mailboxdatabase -Offlineaddressbook "NewOAB" to get updated as it's not refelcting in the IIS under OAB virtual directory yet but the GUID is already updated in the Server C:\Programs Files\Exchanges\OAB\GUID Any advice if there something wrong?

As you have rebuilded the OAB, can you try to restart the distribution service on the server and see if that makes any diff. Also when you try to donwload the OAB manually, do you see any event log on client and the server (info, error or warning). does it complete the whole download process??Raj

Hi Ranish, Thanks for the input, let me confirm again, the distribution services you are talking about is it Microsoft Exchange File Distribution Service"? I have re-started that service and the System Attendent and all other services Exchange Service looks like all information have been replicated over in Exchange Server, IIS OAB virtual directory and Outlook client. I have created a new user in Exchange, let me monitor and check if the users are downloading the new OAB with the changes.

Hi All, As of this moment after re-creating a new offline address book and updating the Exchange Server to SP3 the problem seems to have ceased. Thank for all the advice.

Hi Guys, The issue is back at hand again, I had created a new user in Exchange 2007 on Monday, and till today it's not reflecting in the OAB when I use cached mode in Outlook but if I remove cache mode in Outlook the user can be found in the GAL as it's querying the online Address book. I have re-started the need services and nothing is happening, please do advise on what's the next step which I can action to resolve this issue?

Hi Guys, Looks like it's working after re-starting the Exchange FS service and download the address book by unchecking the "Download the changes". Any idea why it has to be done this manner, from my understanding it should still work without unchecking and also without re-starting the Exchange FS. Thank you guys.

I have the same issue, but restarting Exchange FS service and recreating offline address book didn't help. I deleted the .oab files in my outlook application folder, and it fixed it. Hope it won't come up again.

I had the same issue when using the default OAB from the server, till I deleted it and re-created a new one. Once that was done and also using the Exchange Management Console to trigger update of the OAB, things started to work fine. Hope this helps, till date no issues.
