Exchange 2007 OWA 401.1 Error when accessing from Server 2008 machine
So I am in the process of troubling shooting an issue I have with Dymaincs CRM email router. In the process I have tried logging into our (very fully functional) OWA enviorment from the exchange server itself. If I access OWA from firefox (on the server 2008 exchange box) it works fine. If I access it from IE8 (on the exchange box) I get a 401.1 error with a Secuirty event posted about the failure. OWA access with IE8 works on every other machine. The issue seems to be related to my Dynamics CRM issue where the CRM email router fails to authenticate because of a 401.We are using Basic And Windows Authentication.

I disabled windows authentication (leaving ONLY basic) and the problem goes away.Of course I still have my CRM router 401 error.

Moved CRM router to another machine, this resolved the issue.
I wonder if this had something to do with the split DNS configuration (and SSL) we are using.

Hi,Whether the forms-based authentication is used in your scenario? If it is, please understand that only the Basic authentication should be required on the OWA virtual directory under IIS.ThanksAllen
