Exchange 2007 OWA's 440 Login Timeout issue after power outage
Hello all. Following a power outage our Exchange Server seemed to have booted fine. I ran chkdsk in read-only mode for safety and there were some minor inconsistencies in security descriptors. I then restarted the server for a proper chkdsk ( /f /v /r ) and after boot up I had several problems, among them the Transport service wouldn't start. After much researching I seem to have solved almost all the problems (Transport account identity had to be changed to Local Service, and Exchange program folder permission inheritance had to be reseted) but one remains and I just can't seem to get it fixed. OWA is refusing to work. First the default application pool would stop due to issues accessing rpcproxy.dll. These were fixed correcting permissions inheritence on the file. Then the same for aspnet_filder.dll. Now I'm stuck with a 440 Login Timeout error. What I've already tried: OWA virtual directory recreation (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941201) IIS anonymous and application users sync (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941201) Anonymous authentication configuration on IIS (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941201) Otherwise Exchange seems to be exchanging e-mail properly, and Outlook seems to be connecting ok (appart from OAB download, autodiscover). These seem to be the more "popular" solutions, however they didn't fixed my problem. I'm starting to run out of ideas... =| CAS reinstall it something to avoid, because I have "that feeling" that it will just break everything into pieces. It's one of those things we learn to "listen" when you work in this business for quite a while. Do you have any suggestions regarding course of action, fixes, or anything? =| Thank you in advance.

Hi, Are you able to log on any virtual directory on CAS, such as Autodiscover, EWS, Exchange. If not, I think the problem is caused by IIS. It is also an explanation why Outlook unable to download OAB. You could try to create a new application Pool then create virtual directory. Hello Jerome. When you suggest the creation of a new application Pool you are referring to the default app pool or all of them? Exchange 2007 SP1 web apps are running on IIS6. As I have the problem in all of the web apps I don't know if it would help. I've tried to do it for OWA's app pool, but without any success.

The only way I managed to solve this problem was rebuilding the server, according to this excelent article: http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Recovering-Exchange-2007-Server-RecoverServer-switch.html The rebuild was successful and almost everything was downloaded from Active Directory.
