Exchange 2007 Not sending/delivering mail via OWA/Outlook
I'm trying to set up a bit of software in my environment that uses Exchange as part of the process, but I can't seem to get mail sending through Exchange to start with. My environment is this: - Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard with AD and Exchange 2007 SP1 - Windows 7 client with Outlook 2010, joined to the domain (also use this client to access OWA) My symptoms are this: - All mail I am trying to send is internal - Mail sent through Outlook is marked as sent, but is never delivered (doesn't appear in recipient's Outlook and no delivery receipt) - Mail sent through OWA appears in Drafts - Mail sent when I telnet to the Exchange server sends fine AND delivery receipt is returned. Mail can be seen in both OWA and Outlook So far I have: - Re-created the exchange virtual directories in IIS - Disabled ipv6 - Restarted the Transport hub (and the Exchange server) - Logged in via Telnet and used SMTP commands to send mail (succesful, as per above) - Exchange MC: Message Tracking shows ONLY the succesfully sent telnet message (4 entries, 2 for the message, 2 for the receipt) - Exchange MC Mail Flow Troubleshooter: Gives me a report but doesn't display any errors or warnings (after I disabled ipv6) - Exchange MC: Process and Database troubleshooting returned nothing. - Checked Windows Event Log but no errors appear I've searched online for as much info as I can, but since I'm not getting any errors it's a bit hard for me to know where to look. I am assuming this has something to do with the SMTP server... my understanding is that this is the Hub Transport service in Exchange 2007, and that it may relate to how my receive connectors are setup. By default, two appear to have been configured - one on port 587 and one on port 25. Anyone have any further idea of where I should be looking to determine the cause of this issue? My next step is to install SP3.. hopefully that will either resolve the issue or help me get a better understanding of what's causing it. Cheers, Ross Currie

Hi, Sounds as if the transport service is not picking up the mails. Please try to set the diagnostics logging on the transportservice to expert and see what is logged. Leif

Hi 1. Exchange 2007 Transport Service will stop working if there is less than 4 GB of free space. Change the queue db and log files to a location that has more space. 2. One user meet similar problem and solve it by himself. You can read this case. 3. You can also read this outlook case. After reading through a whole heap of other stuff, the answer I kept coming back to was "Exchange 2007 is not supported on Windows 2008 R2" So given that it's just a dev environment I'm putting together, I just scrapped Exchange 2007 and put on Exchange 2010. But yeah, the answer appears to be "Exchange 2007 is not supported on Windows 2008 R2", at least for SP2 (which is what I actually realised I was using, not SP1) - Ross
