Hi, Our exchange 2003 server died, so we purchased a new server and I am trying to setup Exchange 2007 on it, but it keeps telling me that "Organization is in mixed mode" well I went to my DC and removed the entries using ldp from "Configuration\Services\Microsoft Exchange\Organization Name\Administrative Groups\My Administrative Group\Servers" but I still receive the "mixed mode" message when setting up X2007. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks, Ian

You need to change your Active Directory Mode! Currently it's mixed and it should be "Windows 2000 native" at least (or even "Windows 2003") Regards Wolfgang

Hi, I am facing the same error as Ian. I had Exchange 2003 installed on my machine. I uninstalled it and then am trying to install Exchange 2007 Management Tools on the system(Windows 2003 x86).The error I am getting is "The Exchange organisation is not in native mode".The recommended action is http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/63bbe074-5dae-41b4-b71b-80ffb0b1d42b.aspxBut, I do not have Exchange 2003 installed anymore, so I cannot follow these steps!Any ideas I can try?Thanks.

Removing the Exchange server entry is not sufficient; you must either manually remove the entire organization, or redeploy Exchange 2003 using the /disasterrecovery switch to maintain the organization. Then, once the 2003 server has been re-deployed, change the organization's functional level to 2000 native (assuming there are no 5.5 servers in the org) before deploying an Exchange 2007 server.Also note that Exchange 2007 cannot be deployed in an org with 5.5 servers, in case you have any.Aaron FirouzSenior Architect

Do you mean by using LDP.exe and deleting the Microsoft Exchange container in cn=services;cn=configuration I have tried modifying legacyExchangeDN from an incorrectly spelled version of my organization to the correct spelling as well as following guidelines to make sure msExchAdminGroupMode=0, which it already was. I am having the same problems as the original post - we previously installed Exchange2003 and before deploying properly the server it was running on failed, so it was not properly uninstalled and I no longer have access to the Exchange System Manager to change the mode to native.

Hi, Since your exchange server was not removed properly from AD, then all Exchange Organization entries still exists and you can't install Exchange Server 2007 in this case untill you either: delete your old Exchange organization with ADSI edit or LDP http://support.microsoft.com/kb/325323/en-us, then starta over with all the schema updates, and AD update, etc. this will be a new Exchange Server 2007 Organization. or if you don't want to remove your current Exchange Organization which was based on Exchange 2003, then what you can do is to install Exchange System Management Components from Exchange Server 2003 setup wizard. don't install the complete exchange, choose custom in the installation type, then choose only Exchange System Management Component. after that open ESM (Exchange System Management), then right click on your exchange organization which listed at the top of the console tree, then click on properties. then choose change mode, if the mode was mentioned as mixed, which is your case, then a pop message will appear till you that this process is a one way process which completed , you can't roll back from native to mixed. after that your Exchange organization will be upgraded or raised to native. then you can start your exchange server 2007 installation. then you want to migrate and transfer all exchange configuration from 2003 to 2007, please follow the below link to transfer and migrate all remaining settings and configuration from 2003 to 2007 which includes Offline Address Book, Email Address Policy, System Folders, RUS, etc: How to completely remove Exchange 2000 or Exchange 2003 from Active Directory http://support.microsoft.com/kb/273478/en-us#appliesto please let me know if the above steps helped you in solving your problem. Hi, this is what i did to get around the problem.Iran adsiedit.msc and deleted the exchange config info. After that, I was able to rpoceed with Exchange 2007 installation.
