Exchange 2007 Multi-Site Setup
We are currently using Lotus notes in our organization and have been held back in our Exchange upgrade attempts because of microsofts lack of replication built into the topology. The setup we have is this, back at base we have a mail server which has everyones mail accounts on, these people sometimes goto a remote site for weeks at a time throughout the year so we also have a mail server at the remote site which keeps there mailboxes local to them plus replicates all changes to base. This is the only kind of setup that works well for us and cuts our bad vpn connection some slack. Can this type of setup be configured in Exchange 2007??, i understand the topology works on AD site links which we have setup with a DC at the remote site. Could we not have a mail server at the remote site with client access server and mailbox server, then when the users outlook querys the location for the mailbox it finds one local to its site instead of trying to obtain one over our VPN. Surely with the introduction of CCR it would be possible to have some kind of active/active setup implemented easily? If not possible does anyone have any experience with this kind of setup, we have roughly 100 users at the remote site?? Any suggestions of 3rd party applications or workarounds considering bandwidth limitations? Thanks

to answer your question Exchange 2007 does not support an Active/Active scenario that you. The only solution I can think of is outlook over http where you would implement a client access exchange server and the clients can get email anwhere any time so long as they have an internet connection.

I would say to go RPC over HTTPS... Are framiliar with this technology?

The only problem i feel with rpc over http is that if we loose the adsl line then the users will receive errors saying they have been disconnected, and will loose access to there mailbox??
