Exchange 2007 Managed default folders
Scenario: I have managed content settings for several "Managed default folders". They are basically part of a clean-up policy. Messages are held there for X# of days before they are moved to a "Managed custom folder" I named "System Cleanup - 2007". Items are held in "System cleanup - 2007" for a number of days and then permanently deleted. The idea is to give users a last chance at an email they might actually need before it is permanently removed from the system. I applied the "Managed folder mailbox policy" to my account, using it as the test account for my policy. My maintenance schedule is set to run from 1am-5am (4 hours). The problem: If I move mail "manually" into the "Managed custom folder", it is retained for the correct amount of time and then permanently deleted. That works fine. However, the "Managed content settings" for the "Managed default folders" IE "Junk E-mail" do not move emails into my "Managed custom folder". Can someone PLEASE point me in the right direction here? What am I missing? It's gotta be something simple. Thanks for any help!

Hi Shawn, I would like to know whether all the "Managed default folders" encountered the problem or only some specific folder encountered the issue such as Junk E-mail folder Firstly, please ensure that your configuration is correctly: 1. Managed Content Settings have been enabled on the Managed default folders and configured correctly. 2. The folder has been added into the Managed Folder Mailbox Policy which applied to your user account After that, I suggest that you run Start-ManagedFolderAssistant to force the Managed Folder Assistant to run and check application log if any error events are logged. You should get 9001, 9021 and 9022 events if the Managed Folder Assistant runs without error. In addition, I suggest that you read following articles regarding the MRM: How Retention Periods Are Calculated for Items in Managed Folders http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb430780(EXCHG.80).aspx Monitoring Messaging Records Management http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb310793(EXCHG.80).aspx Mike

Thanks both of you guys for your responses! The problem I am seeing is with all "Managed default folders" I applied settings to.After looking over several walk-throughs (including the video clip) I think I may have found the issue. When I selected the "Managed folders that are associated with this policy." I did not include the Default folders that I have settings on. I have since changed that to include all the default/custom folders which have settings applied to them.I also ran the "ManagedFolderAssistant" and checked the event log. I got a 9021 and 9022, but no 9001. Also, none of my messages moved, but I don't know if policies are "retro active". Meaning they'll go back and look at when messages arrived and move them accordingly.Something else I just noticed was my system attendant service was stopped for some reason. I'm not sure if it ties into any of this or not, but its running now. Thanks again for all the input!

Hi, I would like to explain to know whether you have read the following article to calculate the retention periods according to your configuration: How Retention Periods Are Calculated for Items in Managed Folders http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb430780(EXCHG.80).aspx In addition, please understand when you specify that a retention period starts when the user moves the item into the managed folder, the retention period does not actually start until the next time the managed folder assistant runs. Ok, everything seems to be gel'ing now. As I said earlier, I didn't have all the folders selected for the policy. Today my changes took effect and junk-email was moved into my custom folder. Thanks again for all your help!I did read link and now have a better understanding of how things are moved around. Thanks!
