Exchange 2007 Mailbox problems
Hello I am trying to install an exchange 2007 server in an additional AD site but am having quite a few problems with the server. A quick overview of the architecture: in the main site, there is a 2003 exchange box along with a exchange 2007 box running on server 2008 that we are currently migrating users over to. We will eventually remove the 2003 box and be completely 2007. Now, I have another exch2007 box I am trying to install at a remote site for local email connectivity for users at that site. When trying to do the install, the installation failed on the mailbox role setup. I am trying to install the MB, UM, CAS, and HT roles on the server in that site, everything else installed fine, but now the mailbox is not installing. I found a couple of forums mentioning that I should try to uninstall that role, but when I try to uninstall the role via the CL I get the below error. "The operation could not be performed because obkect 'server name' could not be found on the domain controller 'local DC'" -- the local DC is the exchange box After this failure, I get an event ID 1002 in the event log saying the same think. Not sure if I am missing something in the Sites and Service of AD, but have tried just about everything to get this working. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Nick

Hi Nick, I think that the issue (event 1002) may occur that the Exchange Server object cannot be found in the Server Container of DC: Configuration->Services->Microsoft Exchange->Organization->Administrative Group->Servers. Thus, please let me know whether there are DCs exists in the Organization in the two sites. If several DCs exist in the organization, please check whether there is replication issue between DCs. Mike

Hate to drudge up an old problem but I cannot get a failed exchange install off my new server. Server 2008 joined a 2003 domain. --> Installed exchange 2007 sp1 on 2008 Server. Started exchange. Mailbox role was missing. Exchange setup says it was installed. ---> Attempt to uninstall Exch All of the other roles uninstalled except the mailbox role. Same error as above: D:\>setup.com /mode:uninstall /role:MB Welcome to Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Unattended Setup Preparing Exchange Setup The following server roles will be removed Mailbox Role Performing Microsoft Exchange Server Prerequisite Check Configuring Microsoft Exchange Server Mailbox Server Role ......................... FAILED The operation could not be performed because object 'SERVER08' could not be found on domain controller 'SERVER08.mydomain.com'. I looked at the above post and found that under ADSI edit the CN= Servers container has nothing under it. Great... the AD entries for my exch server is now missing. I created CN=Server08 as MsExchExchangeServer... but this didn't get me far but only another error code. Configuring Microsoft Exchange Server Mailbox Server Role ......................... FAILED Property IsProvisionedServer cannot be set on this object because it requir es the object to have version 0.1 (8.0.535.0) or later. Current version of the o bject is 0.0 (6.5.6500.0). What can I do to scrub exchange off so I can reinstall it without destroying the domain? The RecoverServer switch doesn't seem to do much. The Microsoft TroubleShooter "Bang Bang!"

What result do you get when doing the recoverserver switch and then trying to uninstall Exchange after that?Jonas Andersson MCTS: Microsoft Exchange Server 2007/2010 | MCITP: EMA 2007/2010 | Blog: http://www.testlabs.se/blog | Follow me on twitter: jonand82

Hmm.. you will have to clean the registry from the server and delete the object from Adsiedit.msc After that start the installation and it will be fine... OR You can do it another way... Check the Configured Version and Unpacked Version Key into Registry and post itGulab | MCTS-MCITP: 2007 | MCTS-MCITP: 2010 | Skype: gulab.mallah

Hello, Deleted the exchange administrative group from adsi edit. Deleted exchange services from the registry, then the exchange folder under software. Restarted server. This allows me to attempt to reinstall exchange 2007. Using sp3 this time. Setup errored out with a schema04.ldf. Since i'm using sp3 now instead of sp1, ran prereqs again (PrepareSchema, AD, Domain, LegacyExchangePermissions). Ran setup with compatibility for Vista sp2 and Administrator. Complete. Exchange 2007 sp1 is not officially supported on Server 2008 R2 as well, and apparently exchange sp3 doesn't help either. Outsource Technology Inc. MSFT Professional Consultant
