Exchange 2007 JetStress Error: LogicalDisk performance counter category is not registered
Hello - when trying to run JetStress in Exchange 2007 on Server 2008 for a second time, we encountered the following errror: 7/7/2008 10:37:23 PM -- Microsoft Exchange Server Jetstress Core Engine (version: 08.01.0177.000) detected. 7/7/2008 10:37:23 PM -- Windows Server (R) 2008 Standard Service Pack 1 (6.0.6001.65536) detected. 7/7/2008 10:37:23 PM -- Microsoft Exchange Server Database Storage Engine (version: 08.01.0274.000) detected. 7/7/2008 10:37:23 PM -- Microsoft Exchange Server Database Storage Engine Performance Library (version: 08.01.0274.000) detected. 7/7/2008 10:37:25 PM -- LogicalDisk performance counter category is not registered; To enable the logical disk counters, type diskperf.exe -yv at a command prompt and restart the computer. This string of messages is encountered right after the welcome string and clicking on the "Start New Test" link. Any ideas? Thanks! Jim Marofske

Have you enabled the logical disk counters and it still does not work? "enable the logical disk counters, type diskperf.exe -yv at a command prompt and restart the computer." The operating system does not collect performance data about the logical hard disk by default. To obtain performance data for logical drives or storage volumes, you must type diskperf yv at the command prompt. This causes the hard disk performance statistics driver, which is used for collecting hard disk performance data, to report data for logical drives or storage volumes. Windows Server 2003 uses the diskperf yd command to obtain physical drive data. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/exchange/guides/ExMgmtGuide/d145e28c-4740-473b-b335-0d221994f685.mspx?mfr=true http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windows2000serv/reskit/prork/pree_exa_swlz.mspx?mfr=true

Sorry - should have posted that we already tried to run that command and restart with no dice. The 2008 OS has the counters enabled on demand. This information is provided as output when running the diskperf - yv command. Thanks for the idea! I'll check out the exchange technet link provided as well!

Has anyone got a solution for this yet? When I first installed the stress analyzer it worked....now suddenly it tells me the logical disk counters are not enabled...even though they are by default on windows 2008. I'm running the x64 version of the jet stress tool. thanks

I finally found a solution to this problem. Only took 2 days Download theExCtrLst - Extensible Performance Counter Listfrom http://www.dynawell.com/index.php/lang-de/support/resource-kits/38-windows/94-w2kreskit. It is also part of the Windows 2000 Resource Kit. Open the app and you will be able to enable and disable all the counters. Ensure that PerfDisk and PerfOS are enabled, then re-run JetStress. Voila.

I was trying to run it against a 2003 Exchange system & got the same errors; from the Jetstress helppages, it says that .NET 2.0 is required to run. Installed it & all went perfectly. Voila again!
