Exchange 2007 Fails to Move Storage Group Path
Hi All...Here's a good One!I have an exchange 2007 SP1 box with all the lastest updates. The system runs great, but my transaction logs on the first storage group are 26Gb. I never thought the logs would get so large for a 7Gb database. Using symantec backup exec 12.5 and transaction logs are purged, but it doesn't seem to work. I've tried moving the files with the command shell and the wizard...it seems easy enough. The transaction logs are on the C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\Mailbox\First Storage Group and I'm trying to move them to E:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\Mailbox\First Storage Group\logs. It seems to get stuck on verifying the path and it always fails. I've tried everthing expect forcing it. I was able to move the second storage group without any problems. Any ideas?

Hi,Is there anything logged in the event log ? Try to bring down the specific database and move it then. Make sure that if you have installed an AV product on your Exchange server that it excludes the specific directories.Did you also try a backup witn NTbackup to check if the logs are flushed then ?Regards,Johanblog: www.johanveldhuis.nl

Hello, I suggest you use NTbackup to do a full backup. Please make sure you backup Exchange information store, not the mailbox folder or the edb file. Then see if the log files are truncated. For our current issue, we should focus on how to purge the log files properly, relocate the log files could not be considered as a solution. Nevertheless, regarding the issue: Log files cannot be moved and stopped at validating path. It can be caused by the large number of log files in the original path. We could use the steps below to troubleshoot the issue: 1. Dismounted only database in the storage group. 2. Run eseutil /mh to verify that the database was in clean shutdown" state and didnt require any logs. 3. Moved the logs to a subfolder. 4. Mounted the database and moved the path Thanks, Elvis

Hi, I am having a similar issue: Running 2008 R2 Ent & Exchange 2007, needing to move the Exchange Store to another drive as that drive is almost full, I used the built in function in EMC to move the DB location, I selected "Move Storage Group Path" and selected the new store & log location but after clicking move i get the error saying "the .edb file cannot be moved from ..." Event Logs are not showing anything helpful from what I can tell. Any ideas?
